The Champ: A Young Man's Guide to Becoming a Great Adult

A Psychiatrist's Perspective
As a board certified psychiatrist and medical director of an inpatient psychiatric unit, I am always open to new material and techniques to help my patients. Pete McGinley’s book The Champ has shown to be an invaluable resource for people who want to enact change in their lives. Although the information in this book is primarily directed at young men, it can be extended toward all people at any stage of life.It has been my consistent professional experience that the development of sound character, self-empowerment, and purpose are essential for mental health and overall wellbeing. Those who are unable to achieve these attributes often find themselves aimlessly plodding along wondering why they are dissatisfied with their lives and why things never seem to change.McGinley identifies the essential character traits that we all should aspire to develop and provides a realistic blue print of how to attain them. He shows us that these character traits not only influence how we are viewed by others, but set the foundation for personal responsibility, self-empowerment, and purpose in life. Ultimately, these traits allow us to attain happiness and a deep sense of satisfaction in our lives.Lastly, McGinley demonstrates that we are not simply born with these character traits. Rather, we must continually take self-inventory and strive to attain and hone these attributes throughout the course of our lives. With a strong sense of self-empowerment we begin to realize that we are in greater control of our happiness and destiny than we ever thought possible.James Abel, MD; Board Certified Psychiatrist; Medical Director of Behavioral Medicine; Chief of Staff Fairmont Regional Medical Center

This was a great read especially for its target audience young men
This was a great read especially for its target audience young men, myself included. I've gained much value out of reading A Young Man's Guide to Becoming A Great Adult, and got a stimulating reminder to remain focus, stay the course and follow the steps for success a man from reading this book. The author made it real clear and simple for those to read from ages 8 - 18... I will be making a few more purchases for young male relatives. I suggest you do that same. Nice work Pete "The Sunnyside Kid" McGinley

McGinley has written a fine book suitable for any young man (or woman for that matter) to use as a guide to becoming a great adult. "The Champ" is easy to understand without dumbing down complex ideas like character, integrity, and charisma. Mac's prose is clear and direct and he covers critical concepts that young adults need to understand. I especially like how he summarizes his key points at the end of each chapter with clear advice about behavior, attitudes, and methods for personal improvement. Great job.

All young men should read this book!!!
Such a great book! As a single mom, it was perfect reading material for my son, sharing thoughts I would have never considered teaching my son.
