8 Classic Albums

Very worthwhile purchase as far as I'm concerned.CD1 - First half is straightforward country, with the second half consisting of non-country standards, with big band, backing singers and a cabaret feel.CD2 - Pretty much all country, and has a nice jaunty little instrumental track near the end.CD3 - Country to start, with a super guitar highlight on "Alabama Jubilee". The second half is more pop-ish, with a smattering of r&r-ish tracks.CD4 - Again, country for first half. Second half is a mix of standards, country and general tunes all played in a country way.Good listening. I enjoyed it.

Years ago the first purchase of a single disc I bought was before I owned a record player, and was, The Drunken Driver. I still have the disc, now worn out but it roused my becoming a fan of Ferlin Husky. I was also into to his comic character, Simon Crum.It is a collection of eight of his Classic Albums on a box set of four CD's at a very reasonable price.

Comments I have made elsewhere about the packaging of these bargain basement Real Gone reissues apply here. However it gets one more star than usual as many of these tracks are unavailable on CD and, as Bear Family don't appear to have any plans to give Ferlin the box set treatment, this is essential listening for his fans. I particularly liked the 'Ferlin's Favorites' LP with strong versions of 'Deep Water' and 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain'.

some of these vinyl albums i had and dad seen beter days the others were never rleased in the uk so i am delighted to add them to my collection, brilliant value.

Great collection of another under-rated country artist who peeking in the 50's and 60's. Surprised Bear Family has missed him.

Ferlin Husky seems to be a much overlooked country music singer by the current generation but he was (and IS) one of the greatest singers in the generations that put country music on the map. His renditions bring back fond memories of a greater and more respectful time in music history. I feel truly blessed to have found these great and clear recordings in Amazon's listings and am enjoying them to the fullest. Thank you, Amazon

This collection shows a variety of Ferlin Husky's recordings. Starting for the 4Star label in 1949-1951 under his own name Terry Preston he recorded some 33 songs for the label until 1951. Most of them were release on albums for King and Hilltop.The British Archive of Country music released already an album with 4Star songs on cd. King 647 is a fine example of that sound and included in this box.Through the years 1951 - 1972 he recorded about 27 albums for Capitol label, and after 1972 he moved to ABC and other small labels. The first Capitol album Songs from the home and heart is released here for the first time on cd. Music with fiddle and steel followed by two other Capitol albums in the early '50 years style. In that period country artists tried to find an answer on the rock and roll boom. Fiddle and steelguitar disappeard from the country sound to make place for a more orchestral instrumentation to back them on recordings.With Walking and humming Husky turns back to the pure country sound with fiddle and steel. The final album on this set "Some of my favorites" is actually the start of a series a fine albums he then made for Capitol.This set shows a wonderful devellopment in Husky's music and I hope on a follow-up on this set. The digitally remastering gives a very good soundquality. Recommended.Henk

Endlich etwas mehr von diesem Super Cpuntry Star.Es isr fast unmöglich noch an alte LP's zu kommen.Die Collection ist Spitze.Übrigens gibt es in dieser Serie noch jede Menge Klasse CD.
