Rivetting, a master story teller at their very best
The intricacies and background are fascinating. I usually skip over long descriptive passages but not with Strike and Robin. Beautifully crafted so that everything appears possible, the detail, emotional insight, so many complex characters, each with a part to play. I can't wait for book 6, I hope there is one, I feel quite bereft without Strike and Robin.

Absolutely Brilliant! May there be many more Strike books like this
I nearly gave up on The Ink Black Heart which was just such a hard dull read, but this latest book is just superb - I can not wait for the TV serialisation of it and hope it is done over 6-8 episodes. There are no boring bits, it is well written, and I am still exhausted from binge reading it into the small hours of each morningI can't fault it. Others say it is too long, that there are too many subplots but I strongly disagree, it covers a long timespan of enforced separation between Robin & Strike and it would be totally wrong to think that the world away from Robin just froze.Robin is amazingly brave and yet understandably so, and her escape is so well handled and conveyed her true feelings perfectly.I don't think I have ever read such a good detective novel and having lived a few miles from an infamous cult in North Wales, the events portrayed are totally believable.

Exciting and gripping
Yet another addition to the ongoing story of Strike and Robin. Will they ever get together? A brilliant, complex and involving story, one that hangs together perfectly and makes the extra-ordinary seem everyday! That's hard to do and JK/Gilbraith does it to perfection.

Great story, the usual over-complex finale
As is perhaps inevitable, the story is a slow burn in the first half. After that it just gets more compelling. So overall I loved the story, but…Like “Galbraith’s” first book, I found the ending rather frustrating. There was enough in the story to wrap it up without the twists and turns at the end, which simply made it too busy. Strike & Ellacott had done enough great detective work just to catch the culprits. The author does rather over-explain the characters’ emotions as well. She’s a wonderful storyteller, but as I’ve said before, no wordsmith.

Disturbing and Compelling
The protagonists, Robin and Strike, remain convincing and empathetic. The subject matter of this novel, the power and danger of cults, is important and chilling. Robin and Strike.’s relationship finally seems to be moving towards the end the reader hopes for.

Excelllent but harrowing,
This is a compelling narrative and sees further excellent development of the characters of Strike and Robin. It is very tense at times and some of the details of the cult are harrowing. However, well worth reading.

This is the best one since the earlier books.
This is far better than the last couple of Strike books. I didn't like The Ink Black Heart much as it was far too long and too repetitive and the gaming aspect was not very interesting to those of us who don't indulge. But The Running Grave got off to a great start and you are pulled into the story quickly. It's basically the story about an insidious quasi-religious cult, and how dangerous it is to get sucked in. Robin joins the cult undercover, and what happens to her really keeps you on the edge of your seat. At the same time the nuances of Strike and Robin's relationship is examined more deeply than previously . Yes, it's a very long book and took me ages to read as I don't get enough time, but I never thought of giving up as I always wanted to know what happens next. I really can't wait for the eighth book.

superb!
This series just gets better and better. Even with a cast of thousands that makes you concentrate, this plot has it all. Suspenseful and captivating from the first page.A definite recommendation.

Great read
The Running Grave is a great book with a thrilling story line. Strike and Robin hold the story together with their own characteristics. Easy to pick up the links from previous books.
