Very Funny!
Bought for my 9 year old who really enjoyed the first book. She absolutely LOVED this and read it in one sitting! I don't think I've ever heard her laugh so much reading a book...

A sickness in town
A book for younger readers. Ideal age is seven to ten. That's just down to the general level of the writing. Plus there are a fair few references to certain bodily functions. The kind you find funny at that age. But nothing else that would force an age restriction. This is the story of schoolgirl and art lover and artist Trixie Pickle. Who is secretly the costumed vigilante the Art Avenger! In her otherwise normal present day setting. This is the second book to feature the character. First was just called 'Trixie Pickle: Art Avenger.' I read this without having read that, and had no problem getting into it. There is enough exposition at the start to make this easy to pick up on. Even though it says you should go and read it anyway. It has two hundred and seventy seven pages. Divided into twenty eight chapters. The prose is big in size though and the pages do contain lots and lots of illustrations so it is a much quicker and easier read than you might expect at first glance.Trixie tells us the narrative in the first person. Mixing her everyday life with her costumed activities. Plus dealing with some mean girls at school, and a mysterious sickness that is spreading in her town. This is a good fun read. It contains a lot of info about art. But even if you're not into that, it's a fun book anyway. The way it's written is nice and engaging and it hooks you, carrying you along with a fun and easy read. It's not trying representation or inclusion or the like. It has a school and class that feels realistic. Which a good cast of characters. Who have comic traits but are also very believable. What's great about it is the illustrations. They are so good. Plenty of little jokes, some nice and subtle and really clever, little these. There's a lot of variety to them also, so they are great to look at and great to read. There's not a great deal of plot to this, although you can see some is bubbling along in the background. It's more just a story of how her life goes. But that's not a problem. Because it's a good read which comes together very nicely in the last few chapters. There's also a few little extras at the end. Some of the facts about art and artists in here I didn't know, so that was interesting. So for kids who are into art, this is ideal. If they're not, then liking to read a fun book is all they need. Well worth a look.

Pickle This One
One of my children has found their flavour when it comes to books and that is irreverant humour and silly action. There are loads of books that cater to these tastes and 'Trixie Pickle Art Avenger: Toxic Takedown' is one such book. It is the second in the series, but my child had no issues picking it up and reading the entire thing in a couple of sittings without having read the first. The book has a fun story and some clever moments. It has a nice layout with clear text, but also lots of images and asides to keep a child engaged. It is a perfect book for a child building their confidence up reading alone as it has challanging passages, but also plenty of fun pictures.

Highly recommend. Fun. Easy. Short read.
My daughter (9) loved this. She loved all the illustrations, the way certain parts of the book were set out. She devoured it and found it an easy read but a fun read. She would recommend.
