Daughter loves this book. Has a lot going on visually and keeps her learning busy.

A favorite of multiple generations, and now much requested by my children
Dense Dudley Pig and his slighty-brighter sidekick, Sam Cat, run down the mysterious thief who's been stealing food from Grocer Dog's supermarket--but not without plenty of misadventure. This is a charming, funny story with all the visual treats we expect in a Scarry book. It is a tale I enjoyed as a child and was delighted to find still engaging when reading it to my own kids. For an adult reading the book aloud, the climax provides a great opportunity to get in touch with one's inner ham.

100% effective.
5 stars... this book scared the bejeezus out of my overly sensitive, precocious 2 year old. now he talks about blackfinger wolf every night and refuses to sleep in his own bed on account of this grocery-thieving criminal. i tried explaining that most people that steal food need the food, and that there are problems in the busytown class/race structure, but no traction. between this and musicians of bremen, we're back to the same sleeping schedule as early breast-feeding days! thanks a lot mr. scarry. or should i say, SCARY.
