A good, sturdy tool
Good for tension headache sufferers, you can really dig in to the points of tension at the base of the skull and neck and effectively eliminate a tension headache if you have the patience and understanding of what you are doing. The rubber grip helps a lot with The knobberjack may be more valuable to you if you are exclusively buying this for tension headaches though.

Feels surprisingly natural for the masseuse and the beneficiary of the massage
The Knobble II works great. I was skeptical but was won over - the Knobble feels very natural, odd as that might seem. I think that it is hollow plastic may be an benefit, as mentioned below.Knobble Pros:+ Reduces stress on masseuse's thumbs when working large muscles and tight knots+ Fits easily and is very comfortable in the palm+ For the receiver of the massage, it feels like a natural shape and not hard or sharp+ Retains a bit of sensitivity, seems that myofascial or trigger points can be 'crunchy' or jump - I can totally feel that with the tool+ Small enough to work areas like the base of the thumbCons of using a substitute for the human hand:- The risk with a hard object is the loss of sensitivity, as was my experience using a massage stone and the plastic tool that looks like a child's jack. With the Knobble II there is some reduction in sensitivity but some is retained (by vibration in the hollow center perhaps?). One technique that combined hand sensitivity for discovery and the tool for the harder work was to run the free hand/thumb in advance to feel out the course of action with the knobble close behind it.As an active participant in massage, I love this tool!

Not perfect but the best I've found so far. Highly recommend!
This little device is both a blessing and a curse! I bought it because I regularly have radiating pain that originates from my hip down through my leg. I once saw a chiropractor that explained nothing, but dug so far into my hip I thought he was a sadist! The more I screamed, the harder he pushed, and I honestly thought about writing a letter to complain how he had done such a thing! I grabbed his wrist to make him release the intense pressure he was putting on what I can only explain to be an apparent pressure point but he didn't relent. He ground his fingers even deeper into my tender flesh, even rotating slightly to make sure he hit every tender nerve in the area! And then, that muscle gave up the ghost and relaxed. I sighed in relief that the ordeal was over, but the sadist wasn't interested anymore. He stopped immediately and explained that he had to fully exhaust the muscle to get it to release. I felt better for DAYS after that, probably weeks, actually.Long story shorter, I'm no longer in the care of a chiropractor. I have a condition that I'll try to spell but will likely botch- Spondylolisthesis. It's basically a fracture in the lower spine caused by repetitive movements made by swimmers and gymnasts in their early teens. I was the latter. I guess most people never even know they have them, unless they get fat and carry their weight differently (what are you looking at! lol). Yeah, so since that magical event with the sadist, I've had reason to try to emulate his moves. Sure, it's HORRIBLY painful, but well worth the relief of the everyday pain I never get used to bearing. While I can't say I was ever able to bring the relief he did (get the muscle to relax) with this device, I can say that it has helped more than anything else I've ever tried. I even asked a masseuse to get it out and she worked on it for a good long time and couldn't get it to release either. That's not the curse. The curse is that even if you can't fully exhaust the muscle, it does relieve pain, which causes pain in other areas to become more apparent. You know that old adage, if your head hurts, hit your thumb with a hammer and your head will stop hurting? Well, it does! Whatever hurts most will command your attention, so when you relieve that, your next lesser pain prevails. I'm giving this 4 stars for helping, but not 5 because it hasn't done what I wanted it to do. I've tried grinding it in, lying on it, sitting on it, trying every angle, etc, but I can't make it do what that wonderful freak did to me. It has, however, GREATLY reduced my pain, more than a professional masseuse could, so maybe it's just me. I would definitely buy again and I'm not at all sorry I bought it! I keep it within an arm's reach of my favorite spot in the house and that's where he lives now!
