Imperial VT0582-A 4-Inch Exhaust Dryer Vent Cap, with Intake Hood Conversion, 1-Pack, 4 Inch, Brown

The dryer vent is made well and with it being made of metal vs plastic. I could see an opportunity for rust especially at the seams. Once installed and sealed with Putty Tape/Butyl Tape and silicone. I seal the seams with silicone also. The next day I sprayed the whole vent with white flex seal, hoping to completely seal the metal from the elements. The only think missing is a grate to prevent critters from getting inside the vent before the back draft flapper... It really should be included... would have been 5 star if it did!

I have not installed yet as we are building and not ready. We needed a black vent for the front of the house and this fit the bill. Seems very well made and has a long pipe to go through the wall. My only concern is whether the gravity closed door will seal good. I will try to do a follow up later.

Wlll add a backdraft damper. It does not have a perfect seal, but the flap outlet is tipped about 10 degrees, so with the unit installed horizontally, the weight of the flap will keep it closed. In addition, the flap has about a 3/8 inch edge on its circumference that fits to the housing like two nesting ice cream cones. Additionally, no gasket is provided between item and wall so will have to lay on the goo. Curious design is the edge on the bottom that is bent over to fasten the sections together. Problem with this design is the product is STEEL and it WILL trap water and rust! I'd smear some silicone on all the exposed bent over edges to prevent trapped water. Lastly, mine was missing a grill/screen. Got to add that since this would make a perfect BIRD HOUSE when the dryer is not running.

Most dryer type vents are very flimsy, not this one.

Good quality at a reasonable price. Easy to install.

It is made out of thick sheet metals and nicely powder coated. Definitely will outlast those plastic ones many times. When installing on a lap siding, you may want to run a thin bead of caulking around the square flange especially down the two vertical sides to prevent water from seeping in behind it.

The unit is superbly made. This is where reviewing is annoying. As an exhaust termination it is well made and definitely 5 Stars. However, it's not able to be used as an intake as it is listed and that is why is was purchased. The backdraft flap cannot be removed without destroying the inside of the unit very easily, and there is not a supplied screen to prevent "things" from being sucked in or finding their way in. We will attempt to modify this for our needs because the finish and build ultimately is high quality though...

This item arrived this morning after waiting almost 3 weeks for delivery. The excitement was building to see what was hoped to be a quality replacement dryer vent hood to replace the tired one currently residing in my house. Horror of horrors! When the box containing my new vent hood came into view, I was shocked at the deplorable condition of the box it came in. Shame on the postal carriers for such lackadaisical treatment of customer goods. Fortunately the contents of the package were undamaged due to the quality of the product despite the tattered state of the box. This review comments on the quality of the product only, not the delivery service or lack thereof.
