A great read
John and Kara share the remarkable story of their life as unintentional circumnavigators. The wit and humor of his style of storytelling is as endearing as it is thought provoking. After reading this on Kindle, I plan to buy the hardbound edition.

A true adventure
A well written, humorous adventure story. At times the writer has the ability to make one feel they are actually ‘on board’ sharing in the challenges and rewards of their around the world circumnavigation. Well done.

Sail away, again
I've always wanted to sail. After a couple reads with sailboats as the backdrop, I happened upon Orca. A review shared the book was a hilarious and true accounting of a couple of inexperienced adventurers. My desire to sail, live aboard, cruise wherever, when ever, I have no earthly knowledge of where that comes from. I too am inexperienced. John's tales of their adventures, voyages, and years at sea did not dampen my dream - but I'm sure I don't have the fortitude of John & Kara. This book is an honest and heartfelt journey with John & Kara. No sailing knowledge necessary. I'm confident I'll read it again, like John's calculations of the amount of earth they covered, I'm positive I missed some gems in the storytelling.

Excellent self published book about seafaring by an author who knows how to author
Most self published sail around the world books are poorly written. Not this one. This is a breath of fresh air in that the author is actually a very good writer. This is unique in the I'm-going-to-write-a-book to help finance my sailing life world. I learned a lot about sailing, the world, and even attitudes about life in this book - and had a good time in the process. Thank you!

A Wonderful Tale of Roaming The World
John Pennington shares his journey from hopeful adventurer to worldly sailor. He blends the story of a young couple exploring the far reaches of our earth with wise, and often humorous observations of the human condition.

The best of this genre I've read!
Title says it all. The story tells of people places and things with the added benefit of some wry humor. He conveys a sense of the events in such a believable way. Having been to some of the places about which he writes, I know his descriptions are right on. One suspects the rest of the book is as accurate. Great stuff to read about a small simple boat sailed by two energetic kids. None of the usual breakdowns, anchor dragging sailing disasters that are too often presented. At the end John remarks that their trip didn't actually coast anything. Remarkable.I love his description of Hometown as the place we all have to leave to discover what's in us and around us in the world. It could have easily been my hometown on the East Coast. No matter, we all know where "it" is.As a sailor and voyager, I love reading books of this type. Many are good, few are memorable, this one is memorable. Thanks John and Kara! I hope there is another adventure to be told later.

Behind the funny and self effacing writing John and Kara are the ...
This charming, amusing book will appeal to non sailors and sailors alike. It's a must read for anyone contemplating sailing a little further than just round the bay. But make no mistake! Behind the funny and self effacing writing John and Kara are the real deal sailors. This is the story of two young people sailing round the world and experiencing some of the most hostile seas on the planet. They put to sea knowing they were alone. Far away from land a sailor needs endurance and the ability to ad lib, to improvise. John and Kara have all this in buckets. They beautifully describe safe landfalls, the wonderful people and the countries they visited. They were also damning of the problems facing our planet. They describe the special community of the long distance sailors and their boats. They are part of this small group that share great challenges. They are almost always quiet, modest, observant and incredibly generous and supportive of each other. I am so much looking forward to the their next book!

Great book. Amazing adventure
I enjoyed this book although it took a while to get used to the authors style. John and Kara are true modern day adventurers. The humour of the book almost belittles the immensity if the voyage and passages that they undertook. I’d have loved to see some photos. Stick with it and the book rewards with some laugh out loud moments coupled with gripping adventure.

A wonderfully candid account from a young couple on a small boat travelling the world.
Having met John and Kara in Ipswich, UK while they worked on their yacht over winter in preparation for their next adventure, it was nice to discover this book of their first lap of the globe.Be warned, if you are dreaming of long passages to remote islands, this book may be the thing that finally pushes you into such a crazy endeavour. It's written with a refreshingly genuine and enjoyable style that whisks the reader along as a passenger for each passage. Heartily recommend this to anyone interested in reading about the world as seen from a small boat. Certainly gave me plenty to dream about on my long commute into London.I hope there will be further books from their continuing adventures!
