What a waste of time on 4 replacements - Amazon Was Awesome
So We have one of these Air Compressor that we got two years ago from amazon, has been working great since. When i was time to order a 2nd one we didn't hesitate to order this as we have had it an know it works. However this is where the story just gets bad.We ordered the first one and when plugged in sounded like the motor was going to fall apart, it rattled and made more noise. Call amazon and they where very helpful. Next day air a new one. Plug 2nd Air Compressor in and motor sounds great very quiet. It gets up to 115 PSI and turns off and we can hear leaking from the fittings. Back on the phone with amazon and they are going to next day air another one. Awesome Amazon you rock.4 days go by and we still have yet to get our 2nd replacement, call amazon and they say it was lost in the mail (fed Ex) so they will next day another Air Compressor to us. OK amazon shipping cost must be getting expensive but OK your paying. We get the 3rd one in and it sounds just like the first, motor all rattling and sounds like it will break. At this point the call to amazon was we just want to return for refund as we had 3 of these sitting in our office and all 3 where defective. Amazon was awesome and gave us return shipping for all 3 at their expense. I drop all 3 off at UPS to get home to find the 4th Air Compressor that was lost in the mail sitting on the front porch.Ok 4 Air Compressors maybe this one will work, bring to work next day plug it in and motor sounds great, runs nice and was very hopeful that 4th time a charm however after 5,10,15,20 min the Air Compressor was still running as the PSi got up to around 93psi and wouldn't move anywhere past that. This thing would have ran all day if I let it as it for what ever reason couldn't increase PSI Again returned to amazon.Like i said before we have one of these right now that works great, has been working for almost 2 years so I know what it sounds like when its running. I have no clue if Steele out sourced to another China company to make this Air Compressor. I see so many company's offering this very same Air Compressor with their company name on it that makes me stay as far away from them as possible. (California tools, GMC) on all 4 of these some looked used, had bend framing or stained front plates. Maybe I got other peoples returns.......Again Amazon did everything they could to make this right, I'm more of a amazon customer after this as their customer service cant be beat.

Noisy, no, obnoxious
Extremely loud, screeched like an owl when I 1st turned it on and continues so. Need to trouble shoot the problem. Suspect a loose fitting or perhaps a bad weld. Obviously not turned on during the QA process.

Motor is only 55dB -- the high pitched whine is about 100dB!
Yes, the motor is a lot quieter than other ones, the problem is that there is also a high pitched whine (whistle) that is so loud that you can't even hear the compressor motor working after a few feet away. Not really what I was looking for in a so-called 'quiet' compressor. Buy the other one that's available.

Great compressor
My Wife and I have air brushed all over the USA. We were looking for large capacity compressor with quick recovery, compact and lite. Well, it was not the lightest compressor for airbrush but with aluminum tanks it was very lite for a compressor that does everything that we need.We use this compressor for everything from airbrushing, general painting, Cleaning, Drying, Blowing out the water lines on the AV and with 120psi and CFM we keep the RV tires full. If weight is a factor, This is the cheapest thing in its class with total reliability!!

KEEP THE BOX FOR RETURN!!
I bought this because reviews said it was very quiet. It performed to my highest expectations - for two weeks (why I say 5 stars). Then it sprung a leak at the gauge connection and therefore will no longer retain air in tanks. I am returning today for a replacement of same item as I want to give it one more try. Amazon return seems to be painless and they are sending UPS tomorrow to pick up. Luckily I kept the box and stuck it in my attic or I would be up the creek with an silver colored aluminum anchor!! Can you say premonition?UPDATE: UPS picked up first compressor as approved by Amazon. Second compressor arrived with a box looking like it was shipped through a war zone. No strapping tape and the bottom fell off when I picked up the box. Ran unit for 15 minutes with tank valve open to break in as specified. Then when I tried to fill tank it was quiet until twenty-five psi and then a terrible rattling inside the compressor started and remains. Probably a knock in the connecting rod. Bad unit or bad drop, who knows. Back to Amazon tomorrow. Good thing I'm retired or I wouldn't have time for all this nonsense. Down to three stars....I know I said one more time, BUT I'm hoping third time is the charm or it will be plan B: Makita.12/8/2011. Well, I am happy with the third Steele compressor. Quiet, no leaks. It has been two 1/2 months and no more complaints. Back up to 5 stars.9/13/14. It died on me. The air manifold is made out of plastic and others I've seen are metal. The air regulator is metal and it screws into the plastic manifold and seals with an O-ring, not a good combination. About a year ago the O-ring blew out and I was able to take the unit apart and put it back together again and it worked until now. I must say I don't use this compressor very often. It sits in my garage to air up tires or blow off my workbench. Last week I was airing up tires and the o-ring blew again. I took it apart but the plastic threads on manifold are stripped. No way to fix so I am tossing this item. I can no longer recommend this compressor and I would put it back to 1 star if Amazon would let me.
