This item is so simple it's awesome, won't break from UV exposure, but don't drop it as it appears to be glass. Easy to mount with included bracket. Easy to read with decent size numbers on tube.I put a drop or 2 of food dye in tube to help make rain water level Easy to see/read.After reading all the reviews on self emptying rain guages and all the issues, (battery's, units not accurate on readings, location to then have to get to to replace battery's) I figured to get what works 24/7 and has done so for years.

I like the unit, it is easy to read.

This is the ideal rain gauge for anyone with two brain cells to rub together. This is my second purchase of this unit. I always watch the weather closely and the forecast was incorrect by ten degrees .The first one froze and broke . The water in it froze. The container is glass. I’ve read some of the one star reviews complaining about the fragility of glass and freezing water. Get a clue people. Makes me wonder about today’s education system.

The screws are not stainless steel. They rusted after the first rain

Thus rain gage is exactly what I expected. I was looking for a larger capacity gage that may old a few days of rainfall. This did not disappoint!Everything about this rain gage was good. Keep in mind, it is glass and may break with hail or a good bump.

The top flared part, which retains the cup in the ring, is angled towards the cup like a funnel. This roughly doubles the area over which rain is being collected, making the gauge read very high. The markings are not spaced to compensate for this. A pity, it's nice looking.
