This was one of the best books I've ever read. Can't say enough good things about the story, with heartfelt descriptions and insights the author offered. Such an amazing author!!! His other books are excellent too! He's a master writer like none I've ever encountered before. Cheers and applause all around 👏

wonder of Lost Causes Review
Absolutely loved this book. It’s so wonderfully written with sincerity and real life situations Ben if it’s fiction. It’s a great story about a single mother who’s a veterinarian working in an animal shelter . Her eleven year old son was born with cystic fibrosis . It’s a very lung disease . His name is Jasper. Jasper friends an unadaptable dog named Lucky. He has a very lengthy history of owners he ran away from. He’s not a healthy dog either. Jasper and Lucky hit it off well. Jasper finds out Luckys real name is whistler. Jasper has this special gift of knowing Whislers thoughts. It’s a great story how things work out through all their life struggles . My I really enjoyed reading this book.

The Wonder of Lost Causes: A Novel
Just excellent !!! This story is so good that I am surprised people are not singing its praises. Of course I am a fur baby lover. Still this story is so insightful as to why some dogs just click with one person and would definitely give their life for them. Many cats have this ability to bond with a person that they chose to give their love to. A young boy with a devastating disease meets, at his mothers animal clinic, an abused ugly looking dog that he finds that unique bonding with. I absolutely do not want to spoil this story by telling readers to much. If you are a fur baby lover then you will understand as you read.

Enjoyable read!
I got this book, The Wonder of Lost Causes, to read for my book club. I'm looking forward to a great discussion! This is a story of a boy and a dog and the boy's single mother who is a veterinarian at a dog shelter. It's an easy read and of course, I was cheering for the boy and the dog while his mother had to come to grips with whether or not she should let her son adopt the dog. The boy has CF so there are lots of factors. It is a well written story with subtle humor throughout, as well as many details of life that get in the way! I recommend it wholeheartedly!

Two Stories in One--Both Worthwhile
There are two stories in this book. One is of a single mother doing her best to keep her son with cystic fibrosis healthy and alive. The other is the story of the love between a boy and a dog. More than love, it's a mutual understanding. The author's own experience with CF gives the story such realism--all the doubts and self-questioning and overprotectiveness and worries and fears as well as moments of elation that every parent of a chronically ill child must experience. But that heaviness is lightened by the instantaneous relationship between her son and an ugly, abused mutt that comes through the shelter where she works as a veterinarian. Like a human love story, the conflict keeps boy and dog apart until they finally come together only to be torn apart again. While the "dog speak" may not be entirely believable, and there were a few times I questioned how a character could not have seen that coming, there is more than enough wisdom and poignancy in this story to make it worth reading. Anyone who loves dogs, especially those who've had a special "understanding" with certain dog, will enjoy this story.

if you alone /sick this will actually cheer you!
Hi Nickie ¬ oh ny effing geesus, you mailed it....i got it coz of cute cover..... what a surpriseas a grownup Jasper would say - bluddy brilliant.for most of the book i laughed and laughed.. thought, oh my god he's describing what i been through and still am. Itr is such a comic relief (black humour) to know i am not alone, that so many go through variations of this.. still smiling (and no i never got to have my own dog but did live for a time with a friend and her borzoi (yes she did the snout thing too, wot a meanie - can't you tell we are no longer friends?) - yes, me and her dog were inseparable for that short time...pet pet pet.. you are ruining my dog.... gaaaah... You write with such knowing i thought, oh he's really gone/gong through this and it was your notes after the book that made me cry, so big hugs to you and thank you from the bottom of my dodgy heart for describing so many things i have experienced... as i said, brilliant.. p.s. i made it this long coz i have/had birds...was never allowed a dog, but had birds -cheery buggers, got me through all sorts of horrid stuff. Thanks a million, cheers, all the best xo :)

Big hearted story
Slowish start, but it’s a really life affirming story about the chances we all need to take. Stayed up to finish.
