Very Solid Game
I think Rise of Nations is a lot of fun. The game clearly has a lot of thought put into it and it provides a nice combination of larger turn-by-turn strategic planning (somewhat similar to the Civilization series--some of my favorite games of all time). My one complaint is that a lot of the battles can degenerate into wars of attrition where you end up pouring troops into a battle until you gradually overwhelm the enemy (this is at least in the campaign mode where you battle the computer). In these battles, it's easy to lose a sense of the fine points of strategy or of the technological research aspects of the game. All of that being said I think this a good game that is definitely worth the price. I also haven't tried the online mode so I can't speak to that.

Truly Awesome
I bought this game to play while I was on road trips and just picked it up for the first time today. I was a bit skeptical at how well the game would move from primitive to space age in a single scenario, but I am thoroughly impressed. The campaign is enjoyable and nonlinear, making it very interesting. The graphics and sound are good enough for me, and it is just difficult enough not to be infuriating. I play it on my new, white macbook and it runs like a charm. Also, the seller I bought it from through Amazon, Green Valley Place, was exceptionally good. When I ordered it, it apparently got lost in the mail. I promptly emailed when it didn't arrive, my hopes not high. They responded within hours saying that they were deeply sorry and had put another copy in the mail while they investigated the occurrence and it arrived in two days. If you like real time strategy this is the game for you. It's like age of empires only better. If you only buy one game, make it this one.

Need OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard or Earlier! (I partitioned my HD with Yosemite & SnowLeopard to get it to work)
One of my all time favorite games. But you would want to know that the latest version of mac you will be able to use is osx 10.6 snow leopard. I have yosemite on my imac but I was able to partition the hard drive vary easily using disk utility. Then I purchased a usb flash drive copy with snow leopard from ebay for about 12$. Now I can run my usual stuff in yosemite (or any other os you like) then when I want to play RON I just start my computer up in my snow leopard partition and boom!

Rise of Nations(Mac)
This game is amazing. That simply can be put no other way.I totally recommend it.However,a warning to people buying this for Mac.The last OS that supported this game was snow leopard. If you buy the game and you have a newer OS installed,as I did, there is a work around however it may cost more than you wish to spend. You need to buy an external hard drive and have a installation disc for snow leopard or earlier. Then you boot up you mac with the drive plugged in and the CD inserted holding option and click the disc when it appears and select your external hard drive as the place to install it.When you've installed snow leopard or earlier on the drive you will need always restart your computer and hold option to select your external drive as the drive to run off of and install RON on that drive.

Great game
I realize this review is a bit pointless since it is 8 years after the fact, but here we go:Great game. If you're a fan of slower strategy games with focus on things other than combat, then this is a good game for you. Similar to Age of Empires, and a real-time version of Civilization. Would recommend. Lost many hours playing this game...

The new OS versions no longer support it :(
I rate this as 1 star because it does not work on the new Mac OS versions, even though it says minimum requirements are OSX 10.2.8. I used to play this game all the time on my old PC at home, and it forever will be my favorite game to play. when my PC broke I decided to get a MacBook because I was in college, I was very excited to see this available for Mac. However, but I should have read the recent reviews because it is no longer supported and will not open. I usually do not get angry about things like this, but this was a big waste of $50. They need to change the description, or at least tell you that it is no longer supported

Don't buy for newer Macs.
Looks like a great game. Unfortunately, the computer requirements aren't exactly accurate anymore. Yes, the game requires a minimum of OSX 10.2.8 to play, but it also needs to be before OSX 10.8 (I think that was Lion). The app contained on the disk is a PowerPC app, which Apple stopped supporting years ago.Sadly, this information was nowhere to be seen until the reviews, and even then, you had to scroll a while to find it. There's a waste of $50. Shame, because I was really looking forward to playing this.

Beware on OSX LION
This a great game. In my opinion one of the best out there. It does, however, not run on OSX Lion because they've dropped support for powerpc games. Make you find a game that can play on an intel based mac before buying. I have to install snow leopard again if I want to play it.

CHILDHOOD CLASSIC!!
Love this game, it's over 10 years old and still amazes me, definitely recommend to anyone will a Mac and CD drive.Beware: If you have a new Mac (without CD drive) you may have difficulty booting the game, the game must launch WITH the CD otherwise it just says "please insert Rise of Nations CD" but after it launches you are free to remove the disc.If you have an external CD drive you don't mind using quickly to launch it then no problems here.ALL IN ALL: Buy this game!!

Great game
It's like the Age Of Empires series with a little more action. You can have tons of units, so you end up having huge armies and epic battles. Watch your blood pressure! One of the functions i like best is how you can position your units - you can choose which way they face; you can deepen their formations, widen them, form wedges, dig in, chase villagers. What's not to like!?
