Problems
This is the third Distainert trail camera I have ordered. The first one provided truly excellent pictures, especial at night, but absolutely no sound. It was advertised as 16MP, but a 12MP was delivered. In hindsight I should have kept this one, and put up with the lack of sound. But I saw a 16MP, updated version, and in the hope that this would provide both a good quality picture and sound I returned the first camera and ordered the updated one. However this also had no sound, coupled with a very poor night-time picture. This was also returned and a replacement ordered. I thought, perhaps I'd just been unlucky and decided to order another 12MP camera, hoping it might provide both a good picture and sound. The 16MP wasn't that important as I don't propose taking pictures with the camera. However another 16MP camera turned up, this had low sound and again a very poor night-time picture. We have hedgehogs in our garden and film these, on the first camera you could see the individual quills, on the others they were just fuzzy grey balls with legs, Believe me I tried all the settings, placed the camera at different distances and covered varying numbers of the infra red lamps. The best videos were obtained with only 12 of the 42 exposed, but even then the definition was poor.During this time I managed to contact the importer, I was informed that the person dealing with these had left the company. Her replacement suggested I returned the camera to them and they would supply a replacement, but doing this was far more complicated than just returning it to Amazon, which I did.I have spoken with Amazon, mainly to explain why I had had to return three of these cameras. I explained that although Amazon were offering a raft of these cameras, they were in fact all made in China, probably by the same manufacturer. If problems were encountered the importers have no real knowledge of the cameras at all. Instead they rely on purchasers contacting the Chinese exporters. I'm uncertain of the exporters level of knowledge as they mostly answer a different question to the one asked. Unfortunately I don't speak Chinese and the exporter's staff don't have enough English to be able to discuss anything approaching technical matters. So if you are lucky enough to have managed to get one of these Trail Cameras, which has both good picture quality and sound, perhaps you could comment and inform me which camera you have. Many thanks

Much improved Night Vision - pictures and video
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. What can I say? This is a cracking piece of kit! I first started out on my adventures in TrailCams with the Crenova 12MP 1080P HD Infrared Game&Trail Camera 42 Pcs IR LEDs 120°Wide Angle Night Vision 2.4" LCD Display Waterproof Hunting Scouting Camera Digital Surveillance Camera , and finished the review for that item saying 'What more could one ask for?'. Well, the answer is 'This TrailCam!'Having reviewed the previous camera, I was asked if I would like to try out the updated version. So what are the key differences?1) The difference in brightness at night is incredible - I've attached photos showing night shots of the old one and the new one (the old camera is the first two pictures), and while in the old photos you can tell that there is a hedgehog there, once you start zooming into the picture, the definition just goes. This camera lights up the area much better, and you can zoom into night shots and still keep the detail (All these shots were taken with the camera strapped to the same tree in near enough the same position, with the dishes in the same position).2) This quality increase also extends to the night video - be aware that a 5 minute video clip will take about 1.3-1.5GB of storage though, so it'll munch through a 32GB card in not much time. That said the quality is great.2) This camera doesn't glow in the dark - the previous one did. Apparently it's due to the type of night vision LEDs used. While wildlife didn't seem particularly bothered by the red glow of the previous one, if you wanted to use the device as a security camera, then this one would be better, as it is far less noticeable. I guess it also reduces the chances of someone seeing it and pilfering it when it's left outside too.3) This TrailCam is physically bigger - not hugely bigger, but enough to notice. Whether that's to do with the squeezing in of the new technology, or to make the device sturdier, I know not. However, the physical volume of the camera now extends into the rear area that the strap passes through (if you tie it to trees like I do), and whether because of this or just a change in the design, the rear of the device is now slightly bowed. This does make it slightly more difficult aiming it if it's fastened to a straight tree / fence post, but on the flip side, it allows a certain amount of flexibility if the object that you're fastening it to isn't at the angle you want the camera to be! If you use it on a tripod, this won't make a jot of difference.4) The strap has changed - previously to fasten the strap, you had to weave it through the sort of fittings you get on compression straps, now you just pass it through a clip with teeth - this makes it far less of a faff if you're attaching it to a tree while crouched down and leaning over ... the things I do to satisfy my craving for hedgehog pics!5) This one takes a MicroSD card, not an SD card like the old one (wish I'd realised that before buying a second SD Card!). Both take up to 32GB cards.6) You can download pictures and video using the supplied Mini-B USB cable, which means you don't need to keep removing the memory card each time.So what hasn't changed?1) The two cameras are both 12MP, so daylight shots are comparable2) They're both sturdy, and have coped with some pretty foul weather (non-stop rain for days on end) and are still fine3) There's no noticeable reduction in battery life that I've noticed between the two - they've both stayed outside for several days quite happily (I tend not to leave it longer than that as curiosity gets the better of me!), and they can take hundreds of shots at high resolution with plenty of battery left - my record is 744 pictures (Note that if you're taking video, you'll probably run out of memory before you run out of battery!)4) Talking of batteries, I use 8 x 2900 mAh rechargeable batteries, and I've not had a problem taking video.5) Packaging is the same high quality6 )Lastly, but by no means least, they're currently the same price - which makes this choosing this camera a no-brainer!So in summary, they're both great bits of kit. However the discrete-ness of the black LED lighting, and the quality of the night shots makes this one the winner hands down.... and for those of you who have been following my quest for hedgehogs, we now have TWO!! You can see them both at the start of the video (the second one is in the foliage at the left of the screen. Not sure where the second one came from, but hopefully they're a male and female, so we can start a colony - mind you, they don't seem to be getting on at 03:40 (2:30 into the video)! Time will tell ...
