The Puppy Training Handbook: How To Raise The Dog Of Your Dreams

Highly recommended! She treats you like a normal person instead of being a perfect trainer!
1st- i have had 2 dogs of my own who passed and I bought this for my newest puppy, its not just for beginners. this book can be very beneficial as early as when you are looking for a puppy as it starts with how to train your pup as soon as it gets home but I had my pup 3 weeks before I got this book and I'm grateful for this book. She doesn't act like a powerful trainer, she actually understands why behaviors happen and acknowledges that we are human! I appreciate her understanding and explains why behaviors might be cute now but can lead to a dog they bites or whatever it is. I read over half of book in 2 hour setting. It's very interesting. I made mistake of stopping at first obedience training , I skipped past rest of commands as I'm still on first one and read on to behavioral traits.i wished I had read that earlier. I'm working on correcting behavior and establishing Behaviors. So far it's going good. This book doesn't use a clicker thank goodness! Who the heck keeps clicker on them 24/7? I highly suggest reading this book! She also explains why you want to do this or that and relates it to our daily lives so it's very easy to understand. I couldn't wait until I was done reading this to leave feedback cause I hope this helps a new owner. I will update when I'm done. And this book can be used throughout the life of your pup, you can refer back to it often. You will love it!

Good training info
Comprehensive and provides a lot of good information regarding the challenges of raising a puppy. Starts with preparing for your pup, provides good explanations on how to properly potty and crate train, basic obedience and ends with insights on proper health care. It is easy to read, although the question and answer format became a bit redundant and boring for me. There are a lot of editing mistakes in the book, that by the end became annoying. There are also errors in the information provided. For example in the section regarding "touch" training the author instructs you to put a treat in both hands. Then she instructs you to give your pup the "touch" command while holding your hand out as flat as possible (the illustration shows the fingers extended with palm down) while holding a treat in the other hand. What? Why put a treat in both hands if you are going to hold one of them out flat with the palm down? She goes on to emphasize "You will never give him the treat in the hand he touched." Again, referencing a treat in both hands. My bet is the illustration is wrong and the palm should be shown facing up? Not a big deal to me because I see little value in teaching the "touch" command, but it is confusing and raises questions about other aspects of the book. Also, there are several references to videos that obviously don't exist in a book. The most glaring video reference is in the section on teaching your pup his name (pgs. 138 and 139). Overall the book has good information that is easy to understand and will set the stage for raising a well behaved pup. However, the writing style and errors lead me to give the book an "Okay" three-star rating. Probably not a big deal for many, but better editing would have made a big difference for me.

A lot of it is common sense, but it is a great handbook for newbies!
If you really have no idea of what to expect when you bring home your puppy, this is the book for you. It's kind of like the dog-owner's version of What To Expect When You're Expecting or Puppies for Dummies (don't know if that last one is an actual title, but you get the point). If you already have a clue about how to raise a puppy, I think this book might be too beginner-level for you. Also, as with any book that gives advice, the author has some pretty strong opinions about how to "parent" your new "child". I say, take them with a grain of salt. The more books and articles you read about raising a puppy, the more you'll realize how various "experts" have very different ideas about how to raise your little pup. So, use it to get started on the adventure of being a puppy-owner, then branch out to other sources as your questions become more specific.

HANDS DOWN the best dog training book out there!
This book is a MUST HAVE for any dog owner!! Kaelin’s training style is unlike anything I’ve experienced, and I have had 5 years of intense training with a hyper-anxious and fearful rescue pup. My dog’s behavior was so unusual to so many trainers, and it wasn’t until we started working with Kaelin that things just MADE SENSE. Her 5 Golden Rules truly are gold - they make an immense difference and are simple to implement. You will not be disappointed with this book, you will feel so empowered and able to connect with your furry best friend.Thank you, Kaelin, for sharing this with the world. It has made all of the difference in my pups life. My dog has such incredible focus now, is immediate in her response to commands, and is so comfortable in her own skin! I never thought she would be at a level where I was able to bring her out and introduce her to strangers and her not be reactive. Today, we have a method of appropriate introductions, and with the 5 Golden Rules my relationship with her is so incredible that she doesn’t feel the need to ‘take the lead’ anymore. It’s an amazing book, by an amazing trainer, give it a go and have the dog of your dreams!!!

BEST PUPPY BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!!
I got this book to train my rescue puppy Tinkerbell. She is coming this Saturday, December 26th and I can’t wait! I feel 100 percent more prepared now that I have read The Puppy Training Book by Kaelin Munkelwitz. I would recommend this book to anyone who is expecting a puppy or as a refresher is your puppy isn’t doing what you need them to do. My other Pom Bear passed away last year I wish I had this book 17 years ago when he was a puppy. I will put Kaelin’s book to use shortly. I’ll check back in with update of how it worked. Thanks Kaelin.

Must read for all dog owners
I’ve loved and raised two dogs so far. After my 14 year old golden doodle died, I decided to jump right back in and got a 9 week old bernedoodle. I had forgotten how difficult a puppy could be a decided to pick up this book as a refresher. It was way more than a refresher! I learned so many valuable lessons that I really this book was around 26 years ago when we got our first puppy. The damage we could have avoided, especially with our first dog, is beyond imagination. If you are planning to get a dog or thinking of getting one in the future, start with this book. If you already have a puppy or older dog, you’ll still find this book useful.I’ll be rereading many sections of this book and will follow Kaelin’s advice on social media to keep my training skills sharp to raise the best dog companion possible.

AMAZING BOOK
Such a great book for first time dog owners and trainers! Really puts everything step by step and not that intimidating. You're going to walk away from reading the book feeling like you know what you're doing. How she explains each aspect of training as well is so easy to understand. The book pretty well captures what the first few weeks of dog training will look like. Such a great book and such an easy read!
