Wild at Heart: A Novel (The Simple Wild, Book 2)

Sequel to The Simple Wild is Just As Good!
My favorite book a couple of years ago was The Simple Wild. It’s still a book I won’t ever forget and when the author decided to write a sequel, I couldn’t have been more happy. The author’s fans(me included)were and are ecstatic to read about the same characters from The Simple Wild. The story about a spoiled young woman that traveled from her home in Toronto to Alaska to reconnect with her terminally ill father and the rugged bush pilot she meets there was brilliantly told. Enemies to lovers turned into a passionate, but possibly doomed romance. Due to this being a true sequel, the action starts up just a few days after the end of book one. Because of this, the review will feature spoilers. Just a heads up.Calla finally decides to move to Alaska to be with her love. No one could be less suited to living in rural Alaska, but that doesn’t take into account the love she has for her pilot, Jonah. If nothing else, she is determined. Jonah’s whole life is tied up in his inherited planes(from Calla’s father)and the new pilot service he is trying to build. The couple buy a house near a small village in the middle of nowhere. Jonah works long hours and is rarely home. Calla knew it was going to be this way so she works hard to keep her disappointment in check. To be honest, she had a lot more patience than I would have had. She throws herself into Alaskan life, meeting new quirky people, redecorating the house and dealing with wild animals as they breach the couple’s land. The couple’s journey through this wild land and everything they experience was a wonderful story and my favorite of this year so far.Calla was a fashion blogger with a love of clothes and makeup when she met bearded Jonah. She brings designer clothes and boots to visit Alaska and would rather take a selfie than just about anything else. Alaska was a big wake up call for her in book one. Now, she has a better handle on all things Alaska, but has so much more to learn. Jonah was her father’s second in command at his pilot service. There were times I really didn’t like him in book one, but that all changed. I ended up adoring this couple and all their banter and eventual love. I still feel the same way now and even more so after this amazing story. I also really enjoyed all the quirky characters, some from book one, but mostly they were brand new ones. All of these characters were lovingly fleshed out by the author. No cookie cutter or one dimensional characters here. It’s usually hard for me to love a sequel as much or more than the original book. In this case, Tucker has taken beloved characters, put them in a completely new circumstance and ended up making me enjoy this as much as the first one. I honestly can’t think of a thing I didn’t enjoy. There’s steamy scenes, but nothing hardcore, a little bit of suspense, lots of banter, fun times, new characters, old characters, and I don’t think I could have loved it more. I will be the first in line asking for another book. I guarantee that once you read these you will want to visit Alaska. And you will definitely love Calla and Jonah.Amazing read suitable for adult contemporary romance or woman’s fiction readers. The Simple Wild should be read first or you will be completely lost. 5 huge stars!

Calla & Jonah’s Story Continued
4.5⭐️/ 2-3🌶️We’re back in Alaska with Calla and Jonah! The previous book showed Calla’s emotional experience while being reunited with her dad, and making the most of the time together before he passed away from cancer. In addition, Calla also fell in love with a burly, blunt bush pilot by the name of, Jonah. Jonah and Calla knew they didn’t want to be apart from each other so, now in this story it followed them as they set out to make their new home together, a new life where they had one another as they had always wanted. There were some bumps along the way, but there was nothing Calla and Jonah couldn’t handle when it came down to having each other’s backs. With the once again amazing scenery of Alaska as the backdrop to this story, it was once again immersive, reflective, and deep. I fell in love with Calla and Jonah in the first book so, I was more than looking forward to seeing what else would unfold in their adventures together. At first, I just thought of this story as being lighthearted, and sweet in seeing Jonah and Calla starting a new chapter, but there was a lot more. Calla and Jonah had always been open and honest with each other, but in this book particularly it showed them trying to navigate their wants and hopes as well as dealing with the different challenges. Aside from some minor disagreements, when the topic of starting a family and more about their future came up, that was when things became a bit tense for Calla and Jonah. To me, that moment was something that stood out to me because, it showed that even with the past conversations Calla and Jonah had about one day getting married, having kids, etc. it wasn’t until other unexpected things that happened that really highlighted how they felt. Calla was adamant on finding her own way now living in Alaska and not ending up like her parents, whereas Jonah just wanted to live life happily flying his planes, and having Calla by his side.Omg the way I became so frustrated while reading this book! Ahhhh! When I say frustrated, I mean I was feeling all the emotions that Calla was going through. From feeling out of place, but trying to find her footing in Alaska to dealing with jealousy, and a bit of insecurities/self doubts, I was sympathetic towards Calla even more in this story. Even when things were seemingly “resolved” between Calla and Jonah, I could still feel the tension lingering, and I just knew more things were going to surface between the two. Things were most definitely not great with Calla and Jonah the deeper the story got into, and it made me anxious and frustrated for the state of my fave characters going through a low point in their relationship!Having finished reading this book, the title is so appropriate especially when it came to Calla and Jonah’s relationship. Things between Calla and Jonah had highs and lows especially when starting over together in a new town, settling into their new home, and finding themselves in a new career path. Calla was so adamant on not being like her mom/ her parents marriage falling apart that in some instances she wasn’t fully giving the new start with Jonah one hundred as she initially thought. I found myself feeling very invested in Jonah and Calla especially concerned when it came to their disagreements within their relationship. Not every relationship is perfect and that was evident with Calla and Jonah. Despite the highs and lows, I still found myself enjoying reading the story, it was relaxing to me, and once again felt like I was transported to the small Alaskan town. The character growth in Calla and Jonah was great, I feel like they really grew as both individuals and as a couple. I liked meeting the new characters who were an interesting bunch, as well as seeing some familiar faces, but still didn’t like Marie. This story wasn’t as heartbreakingly sad as the first book, but it held that tiny bit of emotional connection that Jonah and Calla had. My favorite grumpy bush pilot and creative, determined city girl finally found their happy ending and footing in their new home, made new friends, and were well on the way to expanding more in potential for more. Great story, loved Jonah and Calla as always.

Bien
Beaucoup moins bien que le premier, mais le retour dans cet univers est cool. Les descriptions des paysages d’Alaska donnent envie d’y partir en visite.

Jonah and Callie forever
I’m a die hard KA Tucker fan and love anything she writes. Wild at Heart is a sequel to the simple wild which I absolutely adored. I’m often wary of sequels, trilogy’s etc as I’ve read many and the second book never seems to capture the excitement of the first. This book does. Although the characters are familiar, the story is fresh and kept me turning pages long after I should have gone to bed. The reality of Callie and Jonah discovering their new life together and the obstacles they faced along the way was perfect. The descriptions made me feel like I was in Alaska. The new characters added depth and the growth of both main characters was beautiful. A perfect sequel. Love love love!!! Can not recommend enough!!
