Ej's River Running Basics Whitewater Kayaking DVD

I love the products from Jackson Kayaks, their boats, accessories and especially their customer service. The videos from Eric Jackson are great as well. The info they cover can save you alot of time if you're just starting out whitewater kayaking. It won't replace personal instruction, but rather gives you a jump start to understanding what you will be learning. The section on gear selection especially is something a group of experienced kayakers can help you out with. What works for one person well doesn't work for another. Trying someone elses gear out first can save you tons of money.

This video covers all the basic skills needed to start river running in your kayak. Since it is a video it shows those moves in detail that a simple written description can not possiably cover. I highly recomend this vedio for the beginner or even the intermediate skill level kayaker. I intend to order more of the EJ's videos.

Awesome starter DVD for any interested paddler. Was good for my 12 yr old boy to watch with and share additional thoughts or recount experiences. Will view more from this producer

This video is great! I've been paddling for a few years, and was worried it would be too basic, but overall, it was not. There are a few things that you might want to watch only once (gear selection mostly), but the rest is a really great introduction or refresher to the truly foundational skills that all paddlers require.I have only one complaint, and that is that EJ is kind of yelling during the instructional/paddling parts. This is likely because they filmed and recorded audio while on the river, so there is background rapids noise, but regardless, it is kind of annoying. That said, I HIGHLY recommend the video to all but the expert paddlers out there. EJ is my favorite video instructor (Whiting is a close second), and the company is HANDS-DOWN the best of all the WW boat companies out there. I have contacted them at one point or another looking for advice about boat selection, parts, outfitting, etc., and Jackson consistently provides the best customer service of them all. Plus, their boats ROCK - we just picked up a Karma, bringing our Jackson fleet of WW boats to a total of 7... just can't get enough :)

Eric Jackson is a freaking paddling legend, innovator (Jackson Kayaks), and a ridiculously nice guy.Proper technique is criticial when you start moving up in river classes. Not only does it make it safer, but picking up this info from this guru is a lot easier than learning the hard way. Even though I was taught by an incredible instructor, Eric's instructional style reinforced everything I had been taught.As a "noob", I didn't know what I didn't know, and once I started paddling on my own, I'd have random people who would tell me I'd need to do something completely contradictory to what i had been taught (which was consistent with Eric's techniques as well). It gave me confidence in sticking to my own methods.I will be paddling the Ocoee this spring. And I will rewatch it as a refresher.RIP Paddling Yoda

IF you could watch a video and learn to kayak, this would be a good video to try it with. Years of experience are boiled down and presented in a fast paced 90 minutes. The information is targeted to beginner & novice kayak paddlers who are starting the move to whitewater. The explanations of why things are done is clear. Positive demonstrations show what it should look like and negative demonstrations show the results of poorly executed maneuvers. see [...] for more details.

I wish I had bought this video when I first started kayaking, it would have helped me get off to a better start. It goes through gear needed, which would have been a big help. It also hits the basics of paddling. Not much focus on strokes or rolling, but good info how moving down the river.This is not a replacement for taking an intro to paddling and/or being part of a paddling club. It just helps you prepare for those things.

Nice intro but very BASIC. If that's what you are looking for...it's the one to buy.
