If you are aware of the principles of how sound travels and transmits itself so we can hear it, you can appreciate the fact that to truly deaden sound, you need to hit from all fronts. This deadening mat is useful as part of your system. The closed cell foam is good for slowing down sound waves and and reducing the amount of 'heard' sound transmitting through the surface of say a car door, floor or other surface. This foam is thick and dense enough to change the amount of sound your hear. You will definitely hear a difference. Combine it with caulk to sealing out cracks and open air and you will notice even more sound deadening. This foam mat is pliable and somewhat shapeable, as I have stuffed it in a cabinet cavity to block sound, but be careful of the adhesive, it is very sticky and the black residue can get on surfaces that you don't want it to go on. I had a bunch on my hands just from handling it briefly. I would recommend disposable gloves. I like it and would get more of this if I needed it for other sound deadening projects.

I like the size, easy to install one where the full piece fits, then cut the partial for the exact fit on next piece!Thinking it will be permanently stuck and fingers crossed that next summer it blocks the engine heat!

Ok - so it does deaden the sound. I did forget to take pics because I was so excited to finally get working on this after receiving it over a month ago. Anyway, I thought it would be a little thicker when i unravelled the roll (based on the photos online), but I had to give it some time to "air out" even though it closed cell foam. That said, I placed it inside my front door cards since that's where I was getting the most sound. I did use this in conjunction with some isles 50mil butyl sound deadener. I placed the butyl on the outside door card and this right on the inside behind the trim/inside door card. I didn't get rid of the factory vapor barrier, but installed this on top of it after tracing the vapor barrier. It makes such a difference in combination with the butyl. The doors seem like they're so much more solid. I'm going to purchase more to use in the spare wheel well area, rear doors, and hatch once I get some time to work on that stuff. I believe that using this (not mass loaded vinyl) with the butyl will significantly reduce nvh (nose, vibration, and harshness). The butyl alone does well, but this adds that much more quietness. There are some great videos online that show you how to do this work. good luck!Note: I would have rated it higher had the backing been as good as the butyl. There were a few areas that may have touched water or some reside on the door (i'm not sure what it was) and it didn't stick as well as I would have liked. It's not that big of an issue because the door card goes over it and it won't fall, but take care in not getting anything on the sticky side.

The hood liner in my car had some squirrels in it many moons ago, thankfully it was just the hood liner, and said hood liner got trashedwith it gone, engine noise went up a lot, and in my lil sedan, it doesn't sound good and it annoying to meSo I finally threw this in there instead and it was great, gotta love it. Lowers the sound, does as it is described. And for a very cheap price.
