In a perfect world, we wouldn't need to hide a key outside the house. Since we don't live in that world, we wanted a safe place to place a spare key that wouldn't be obvious and would blend in naturally with the landscape. This rock key holder looks and feels like a really rock. We have lots of landscape rock in various places around our house and it will blend nicely. We plan to show it to our adult kids who no longer live with us but come by when we aren't home to take care of the pets and sometimes lose or forget their house keys. We are going to photograph it in place and send them the photo in case they need to look for it, which will be a comfort to all of us.

Some fake rock designs don't look very realistic, but this one passes the test (assuming that you have this kind of rock in your area). To be safe it's best to surround it with similar rocks, leaves, pine needles, mulch, sand, etc. to improve the camouflage. The bottom plate easily pries off, and if it's a bit loose you can bend out the two plastic prongs to provide a tighter grip. Compartment size is sufficient for one or two normal-sized keys. Though the top is waterproof, the plate is not seam-sealed so if moisture is a concern keep the key in a sealed plastic bag. Compared to other options out there, this is a very affordable yet effective solution to hiding a key.

The faux rock looks looks good to me. However, maybe I know it is fake, so I always think that it is fake. I put it in front of my yard along with other loose rocks and it seems to blend in quite well. I think if someone has purchased this spare key holder, he/she will spot it right away like I do. The hidden compartment is big enough for a few keys, so it is great. It will definitely helpful if I ever forget my home key. It will save me a few hundred dollars for paying a locksmith late at night if I lock myself out.
