MerrellMen's Moab 3 Waterproof Hiking Shoe
L**N
Sizes Run Small (Moab 3 Hiking Boots/shoes)
First time to purchase and keep Merrell shoes. The previous two pair were too small.I wear size 8-8.5 shoes. I did purchase a pair of 9's once before, and they were large. These fit slightly tight, but, a simple readjustment of the shoe-strings, to be looser, should correct that.I'm not wealthy enough to be able to afford a pair of shoes at $100+ so, it is good to get well made shoes at a semi-affordable price. (Considering cost of producing a pair of shoes is about $10, I have to still question the $50 range; but, seeing the gouging at the stores-- where they have to pay exhorbent rents, I guess it stands to reason). Thanks Amazon for creating an atmosphere of extreme competition.Workmanship: 91/100The shoes themselves seem to be solid shoes. Not old school solid; but, definitely look to be light years ahead of the rest out there. As far as that goes, that allows them to squeak by with an A- score. The soles are some of the best I have ever seen. I doubt they'll wear down any time soon. The soles are reminiscent of the tread on breand new tires: nice and thick, with superior traction.Style: 95/100I did not particularly care for the color or look from the picture. What I wanted was functioning shoes, at a reasonable or at least relatively reasonable cost. What I received, however, was something much nicer looking than the pictures appeared to be; although, looks and appeal are in fact in the eye of the beholder. However, this "beholder's" eyes were pleasantly surprised, and pleased.Value: 80/100Once again, when it cost about $10 a pair to make, and pay the toddlers in China a dollar a day (or less), I find it hard to consider $60-100/pr "value". Based on that alone, no, there's absolutely no beneficial value to consumers. However, add expected durability, and comparable prices, and, the fact prices are much lower on Amazon, I can concede the point. There is therefore, perceived value, which is at play; therefore, considering the prices people are willing to pay for shoes, 30-60% lower prices adds value to the consumer.I have mentioned typical retail prices. $100+ for these shoes; would they still hold to a higher value? In this case, the value would be held in quality, and whether they hold up; which I do believe they will, based on what others who are more familiar with this brand than I am, have said. In this case, yes, I would still give the shoes a high rating. If a pair of shoes lasts several (2-3) years and hold up, then the price tends to become downgraded. For example, when I was in my youth, and Reebok's were taking off, I purchased a pair that lasted but a few months; thereby increasing my shoe budget. If these hold up even for two years, the value is increased greatly.Overall: 92/100These shoes do have a stout feel to them. The biggest downside I can realize is they run smaller and tighter than I am used to, While I am at the beginning of my journey with Merrell shoes, I anticipate a much longer journey with them, and that is a good thing.Recommendation: Until further notice, I highly recommend these shoes; while wishing they run wide and more in line with standard shoes.

very durable. comfortable and water proof
I needed work shoes that will last. These seem to be it. they are very good on slick surfaces. great when stepping in water without worrying. Vibram soles are some of the best. The wide version seems wide enough when i usually need a 4e width. I had to replace the stock insoles not enough support. which is granted for any shoe i have used.

Nearly perfect.
I'm on the second or third pair of these shoes that I've owned and for the price, I don't know that I could get much better. They have wonderful support and traction; I've eased over slick surfaces with these that my fellow hikers have taken spills on (NOTE: I am totally a hero so obviously I saved them from falling)I have pretty wide feet and these accommodate pretty well. I only had mild discomfort after more than ten straight hours of walking over varied terrain, which is more than I can say about a lot of cheaper hiking shoes I've owned. They are NOT boots, so don't expect the ankle support you might need if you're in terrain that would need it. These may help you not to slip as easily, but they will NOT stop your ankles from twisting if you do wind up slipping/falling/doing a thing that would twist your ankle, like....forest colossus wrestling? I don't know where I was going with thatMy first pair lasted me three VERY SOLID years. I expect my most recent pair will last even longer now that I work in an office and no longer wrestle polar bears on the tundra after hiking down the foothills on my way to work. (You think I'm lying, but

Great support out of this shoe
I like to walk and tried all kinds of brands before going BACK to Merrell's. First day out walking I could tell the difference between the Merrell and the other shoes I had tried. Sturdy, helped with balance on uneven ground, great support. Feet, knees, and hips feel better because my feet have the support they need.

My favorite low-top hiking shoes
I’m a big Merrell Moab fan. I also have another pair of these (not waterproof) for hot and dry hiking conditions, and a pair of high tops for backpacking and especially rough terrain. They have terrific tread (but since they also have a thin insole, that makes for a hard sole, so I find them a bit uncomfortable for extensive walking on pavement or surfaced trails, and use well-padded running shoes for those surfaces). But for dirt, sand, slickrock, and forest trails, they are fantastic. And extremely durable—these shoes definitely won’t fall apart on you. I’ve had my high tops for six years now and logged hundreds of miles in them. I particularly like the fact that Merrells are available in wide sizes that comfortably fit my wide feet. In short, I highly recommend them! (And my usual hiking buddy bought a pair on my recommendation, and he loves them as much as I do!)Update: In response to a customer question about the waterproofing, I called Merrell’s customer service line and they said it is NOT Gore-tex (their only Gore-tex waterproofed shoes are the ones that say Gore-tex, and have the Gore-tex lining sewn into them). The shoes that say Waterproof have a “treatment” that has to be renewed every 3-6 months with Merrell’s waterproofing spray or a similar product.

Good shoe for golf.
I use these shoes for golf and they work very well. A round of golf involves walking around 6-7 km and these shoes are very comfortable. They are also sturdy and provide solid foot support for a golf swing. The tread provides ample grip on grass and does no damage to greens, as spiked golf shoes do. The fact that they are waterproof is a bonus.
