While Al defends himself against the transmuted Barry the Chopper, Ed discovers more about the dark alchemic experiments deep within Lab Five. But the biggest threat of all may be Ed's own morality, as he's tempted with the ultimate power he's been seeking for years. Hughes issues an order to allow Armstrong, Bloch and Ross to investigate what's going on inside the 5th laboratory. Now Ed sees that Tucker was hiding the fact that there were human prisoners involved in the making of the stone... and that Ed would have unknowingly killed them. But Lust has Al held hostage... forcing Ed to attempt the unthinkable. Meanwhile, Al's recurring questions about his existence come to a boil. Was there ever an Alphonse Elric? Or are his memories and soul alchemically created lies?

This is where the anime begins to shine!
I'm a huge fan of FMA in general and have already watched all the Brotherhood episodes and really wanted to also se the 2003 version. It's a bit of a pain to see the start be told slightly different, but in these four episodes there is actually quite a lot of differences from the Brotherhood version that got me totally hooked because I really want to get to the point where they start doing their own thing - that's where the shows truelly shine. So I really really loved these episodes and they are some of my fav episodes! The animation looks so good and it's amazing that's it's about 10 years old! After I got used to the English dub after listening mostly to the Japanese dub I just can't decide which version to watch, because they're both really well done. All in all a very interesting and entertaining anime - highly recomend watching it.Thanks for reading my review - I hope it was helpful! :)

Volume Six
Another four episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist and this time round the episodes reveal some of the secrets behind laboratory five. During episodes 21, 22 and 23 Ed searches the laboratory for the secrets of the Philosophers Stone and encounters an old enemy while outside Al teams up with Scar to defeat the armour bound Barry the Chopper. With the defeat of the transmuted serial killer Scar and Al search for Ed but are set upon by the Homunculi who capture Al in an attempt to force his brother into creating a Philosophers Stone using criminals from the prison. The final episode on this volume, episode 24, sees Ed and Al in hospital awaiting the arrival of Winry for repairs but once he is fully restored Al runs away and finds himself caught up with some Ishbalan refugees and Scar himself while they are hiding from a mercenary band seemingly hunting the Ishbalans for the military, the final confrontation with the group leads to an admission by Ed as to what he has been keeping from his brother.
