In 2007, over forty people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew s (Parry Shen) claims that local legend Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder, Friday the 13th series) was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy. But when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Andrew must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.

Cool movie.
I liked it.

My least favorite of the franchise—and it pains me to say it. But there is still gory fun to be had.
Part III SIDEBAR: The last film closed after Marybeth (Danielle Harris; Halloween I-II, The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond) presented Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder; Friday the 13th parts VII-X, Hatchet I-III) with his father’s ashes and watched him melt to death, shooting his decrepit remains as she succumbed to her own tree-impaling. The first three movies took place over the course of a total of three consecutive days (like Friday the 13th parts II-IV). We learned that every day Crowley begins (i.e., reforms) anew until reunited with his father by the hands of the bloodline of those who killed him. Convoluted curse, if you ask me! But those are the rules as we’re told.Writer/director Adam Green (Frozen, Hatchet I-II) returns to the director’s chair for the fourth and perhaps final installment of the Hatchet series. With him, be brings minor horror icons Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Tiffany Shepis (The Hazing/Dead Scared, Sharknado 2) and Tyler Mane (Halloween I-II) to join Parry Shen (The Hazing/Dead Scared), who returns to reprise his third role (Andrew the survivor/paramedic) in as many movies after playing the part II’s brother (Shawn; killed) of part I’s tour guide (Justin; killed). Only now, Shen has risen to the lead role.Franchise Timeline SIDEBAR: Over the course of three films (2006-2013) we came to learn that, because of a curse, Victor Crowley would respawn every night in the swamp of his origin—which is why he kept coming back to life after nonsensically unsurvivable deaths. Part III ended the curse, but much as the comical demonic resurgence in Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018), a Youtube video reciting the incantation resurrects Crowley yet again—now ten years after the three-night massacre (of parts I-III).Much like part II (and III), this sequel opens with a brutal, gorily sloppy opener. Crowley is back to his favorite tactics of mass-dismemberment and yanking limbs from their arterially-spraying sockets. It’s silly, it’s gooey, and I love it. But, also like part II, this opening scene does not forgive the exceedingly boring 40 minutes that follow before the gore and action kick back into gear. Despite having by far the biggest budget of the franchise (about $7M, dwarfing the $1.5M next biggest budget of part I), its delivery is clearly the weakest and, honestly, I thought the budget was below $1M as I watched. The dialogue might be yet weaker than before, and somehow most of this highly budgeted sequel takes place in a pair of weakly designed and ill-utilized airplane sets (interior and exterior).Although my least favorite of the series, there is fun to be had. Brutal head-stomping, squishy face-hammering, scalping, decapitating, limb-severing… and a woman is “violated” by her own severed arm. Yes, it’s fun. But after the outstanding third franchise installment it just doesn’t measure up to what we’ve come to expect. Not even close.

a Cult Classic
Watched the entire series recently on Prime & this one on HBO, and just like the rest of the other films there's a slow start introducing characters and plot to get the ball rolling, then the fun starts when the body count begins. What's weird is the 1960's flashback at the start of the film. I doubt there is any relevance to that date, but merely to introduce newcomers to the series about Victor Crowley (follows the formula for the first 3 films where someone dies at the beginning). Directly after that scene they narrate his origin story to set the tone, but I thought those scenes were unnecessary. Hell, I think the movie can do without those scenes, but it definitely serves as a setup for the coming death scenes. The practical effects hold up great; they work well in the death scenes and for a villain affected by voodoo. Other Horror franchises that try to be serious and intense are irritable, and mostly unbearable. And because there are purely practical effects, tells that the story doesn't need to take itself seriously. body parts don't rip off through sheer force! even the sound effects contribute to this idea. limps flying that sound like raw meat slapping together; I honestly laugh every time. That said there is some predictability as expected, but watch it with the expectation you had with the first film (campy, hilarious, brutal, fun) and you will enjoy it. The kills are worth the watch; you get a myriad of death scenes ranging from brutal to sad, but the funniest death had to be the writer's agent - it's sick and twisted, and it gave me a good laugh. Some nudity, but surprisingly not during any deaths. Enjoy the ride it for what it's worth.

Victor Crowley meets Sharknado
This was the worst movie out of 4 Hatchet/Victor Crowley films. Everything in this movie was a joke similar to a Sharkando movie. There were so many punchlines (that weren't funny) or tired bits (that weren't funny). If you are going to make a comedy-horror movie, at least have the bits/jokes be funny. The premise involves two separate story lines that eventually cross over. On one story, you have the "sole survivor" of the Victor Crowley massacre, that was the paramedic and star, Andrew, Perry Shen. He is trying to make money off of his being the lone survivor, yet most of the world thinks he is the killer, since Victor Crowley is a ghost story. His agent books him on a trip to return to the scene of the grizzly massacre and he goes along for the ride (for a million dollars) along with a talk show host (his ex-wife) and her crew members. The second story involves 3 would-be film makers that want to meet Andrew and get him to star in their movie, about Victor Crowley. Along the way, the hire a tour guide who wants to be an actor. This character Dillon, was the perfect example of a character straight out of Sharknado, he was just a clown. The plane carrying Andrew and the cast, crashes, possibly because the filmmakers are trying to recite the Voodoo curse that brings Victor back to life. After the plane crashes, the two stories cross over. Most of this plot involves corny jokes and characters you really don't care about. For example, there was a couple who we find out the girl is pregnant. Does this have anything to do with the story? No, and before you can even start pulling for this couple to survive....you can figure it out. There are no real heroes here, just slimey people trying to look out for themselves. Like I said, you don't even care about the cast and only one heroic action takes place in the whole film, towards the end, and probably could have been avoided. The film does have a lot of gore as with the 3 other Hatchet movies and that is where the 2 stars come in. Victor Crowley is a giant, muscular, mutant of a man/ghost. He is disfigured and there is a little story that tells you how it happened, in case you didn't see the other 3 films. He kills whoever he can get his hands on, in very different and creative ways. That is the only redeeming thing about this film, Kane Hodder plays Victor and his kills are funny and gruesome.Overall, the movie had a basic plot and a horrible script. It tried too hard to be funny and most of the jokes were just not funny at all. Since it was a horror movie, at least the main character did what he was supposed to do. The end of the movie just ended. It's like the director just gave up on writing a movie ending. Then after the credits start to roll, you get a mini scene, which, if you watched the last Hatchet movie, made no sense. If you are a fan of the Victor Crowley/Hatchet movies, then you are probably going to watch this. If you are a horror movie fan/slasher fan, and have never heard of this movie before, I'd say skip this one.

Brilliant
Can't recommend these films highly enough, better than two thirds of Friday 13th. Ironic given Kane Hodder is in both series

Definitely brought the Gore.
Some strong elements of humor and Gore in this film, per the norm. Not the strongest entry in the series but feels good to have the whole set now.
