English Paper Piecing: Fresh New Quilts from Bloom Creek Paperback – February 7, 2012

Not that there's anything *wrong* with hexagons - those old Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts are beautiful. But these quilts are varied as well as gorgeous. I made the cover quilt (the photos inside are much better) with my favorite 19th century reproduction fabrics. I love the combination of the more traditional hexies and diamonds with the undulating vine in the border. I'm now collecting mainly blue fabrics for the Diamonds & Sapphires quilt.Vicki Bellino's writing is clear and concise. The book has brief sections on EPP and also on quiltmaking basics. The 12 quilt patterns in the book are divided into 3 sections: patterns emphasizing Hexagons, Diamonds and the more unusual Dresdens and Pentagons. I would recommend this book both for the beginning quilter who's just starting out in EPP as well as for more experienced quilters who are looking for different interesting ways to use the technique.

Sometime in the early 1930's, my mother made a Grandmother's FlowerSometime in the 1930's my mother made a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. It is now a little faded and very worn. It has been my retirement goal to make a contemporary version of a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt to continue this family tradition. However, it has been nearly impossible to find clear, simple, directions for this old and not so easy pattern. This book is fabulous. The directions are clear and the contemporary update is inspiring. Don't know why it took so long to appear, but it is a blessing. I think I can do it!! I am still amazed that women made this quilt in the days before rotary cutters, precut paper patterns, and other modern quilting tools!

The book arrived on time, and it was exactly as I expected.

Vicki Bellino's book, English Paper Piecing, gives you many ideas on how to create quilt blocks and quilts. It also teaches a beginner how to do English Paper Piecing, a take-along project for those who find themselves with time to do something. Such as while you are waiting on your children during soccer practice, baseball practice, etc. This kind of take-along project is also good on long car trips, airplane flights, waiting in airports, etc. After reading through and looking at the photographs in the book, you will begin to look for additional ways to use English Paper Piecing in your work, even if it is to create one block to add to a project.

I have been very excited and inspired to start my quilting legacy. This book is an excellent resource. Gives great easy to follow instructions and provides a very nice varity of projects for all tastes and color schemes. If you are a pro - or just a beginner - this book will satisfy all! I bought two English Paper Piecing books and this is by FAR my favorite! The directions are very clear, many adorable projects. If you are a newbie like me, this is a super book!

I haven't been able to put down this book since it arrived. It has beautiful photographs and it's instructions are clear and easy to use. I want to make every project in the book. A very well written and organized book. Well worth the price even if just for the eye candy!
