All opinions are my own.Book: The Witch WarsAuthor: Alane AdamsBook Series: The Witches of Orkney Book 3Rating: 5/5Recommended For…: witches, paranormal, childrens books, magicPublication Date: October 13, 2020Genre: MG FantasyRecommended Age: 10+ (some scary moments)Publisher: SparkPressPages: 208Synopsis: Abigail’s second year at the Tarkana Academy has been an all-out disaster. She’s just unwittingly helped Vertulious, an ancient he-witch and powerful alchemist, destroy Odin’s Stone and restore his powers, and now all of Orkney is caught up in the threat of war as the witches prepare to destroy the helpless Orkadians. Determined to set things right, Abigail and Hugo set off for Jotunheim, the land of the giants, to find a weapon to restore the balance. All they have to do is track down the God of Thunder and convince Thor to turn his hammer over to them. When their former-friend-now-foe Robert Barconian arrives with a band of dwarves, intent on stopping them, Abigail and friends must unite to prevent a war that will destroy them all. But has Abigail made the biggest mistake of all by trusting in the wrong ally?Review: This series is such a fun read! I love how the series progresses seamlessly from one book to another for back to back reading and I loved the continuing storylines. The book did well to keep the world building a priority and the character development a must. The plot is still just as interesting as it was in the first book. The only issue I had was that the pacing was a bit fast paced. That suits me, but might confuse some younger readers.Verdict: It’s well done and a great Halloween read for younger kids!

Look out Ritzy City, Tiga is on her way!
This is the first in a series (currently 4 books) about a nine year old girl names Tiga Whicabim. She lives with her guardian, mean and nasty Miss Heks. She spends most of her time in the shed to get away from her. Meals consist of cheese soup, yes a small bit a mouldy cheese in boiling water. Get the picture, a pretty nasty home for poor Tiga. When Fran the Fairy shows up at Tiga’s shed to tell Tiga that she’s a witch, she doesn’t believe her. Fran tells her that she will take her to Ritzy City via the pipes and jumps down, Tiga sticks her finger in the drain and BOOM, she is sucked in. The adventure begins. Tiga has been nominated to participate in Witch Wars. The winner rules Ritzy City, but if she loses, it is back to the shed and Miss Heks. Tiga is a wonderful little witch and quickly makes friends to help her solve the riddles and win. With Peggy at her side, Tiga sets off determined to solve the riddles, win Witch Wars, and remain in Ritzy City forever. This is a great story for young girls (8 to 10). It has everything: best friends, mean girls, friendly and not so friendly competition, quirky characters, great settings and names for places like Clutterbucks, Sinkville, Brollywood, and depicts loyalty, perseverence, smart girls, and more. The characters in the story are fun. Each of the nine witches in the wars are different and have different characteristics. For a short book, there was a lot packed in. The story flows easily and the plot is developed so the young reading the book will be able to follow it. The illustrations are amazing. The bring the characters and the setting to life. A great beginning chapter book for young girls. I recommend this book to public, school and classroom libraries. I can see this series becoming a favourite of young girl. The publisher generously provided me a copy of this book via Netgalley.

2nd grader adores it
My 2nd grade girl calls the book "Awesomely awesome." She adores the Harry Potter books and has read them all and constantly rereads them. I was trying to find books that would equally appeal to her love of magic. This did the trick. She read it constantly over the last 2 days and as soon as she finished, she demanded I get the next in the series. When I asked her what she liked best about the book, she said, "Everything."

My daughter absolutely LOVED this book
My daughter absolutely LOVED this book. This is only her second "big girl" reading book so it's great seeing her really enjoying reading. She's buzzing when she tells me about what's happened with Tiga and Fran. What a great series! She begins the second book tonight.

Excellent book
Bought this for two of my grandchildren, having read it to another grandchild who had it. Thought it was a lovely and humourous book and the second set of grandchildren, and their mother for that matter, loved it. Can recommend the series.

Genuinely good read for children & adults!
I worked with the Author's Dad this week who told me about the story. I bought it to read to my 5 year old as it sounded fun. It arrived today and I have just finished reading the entire book (I was reading a little to check it was suitable; it was). Absolutely fabulous! Very well written and children will love it. As do overgrown children! Waiting now for the next book to come out!
