fewer stickers
This is a really great little book. It would've been nice to have a little more description of the contents of the book, like a 'table of contents,' though that may seem odd. There are LOTS of little exercises for: learning to name the strings, identifying right and left hand, parts of the violin and bow, too much information on advanced rhythms, should just have exercise w/ quarters, quarter rests, half notes for a beginner, too many exercises w/ too advanced rhythms as this book is obviously for the very young...maybe not older than 6/7 because of the kinds of cartoons, too many stickers, which I think jacked up the prices of this book, draw 2 pictures at the end...wish there had been a bit more re. showing a picture of how to hold the bow, how to hold the violin. Will look at Book 2, but the price of these books is a bit high!

great beginner book
My son started taking violin lessons and this book was requested by his teacher. it is very cute and fun. Kept him interested while doing the required activities. Definately for a beginner. He was almost 7 when he started with this book. It includes stickers for some of the activities too, who doesn't love stickers?

Great introduction for young students
I am currently watching my 6-almost-7 year-old work happily in this book. She has asked for a violin for her 7th birthday, and I plan to teach her the basics (we live in a rural area with no string teachers nearby, and though I've never taught violin, I do play myself). I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the violin. It engages a child of this age on every level. The imaginative illustrations, repetition, color-coding, stickers, etc., keep her both interested and motivated, while doing a great job of teaching and reinforcing the concepts. I think this book would work well for students from ages 4 through 9. Pre-readers would need to be guided, but they would be able to do the activities, and readers (like my daughter) can work pretty independently through it. I would highly recommend this to parents and teachers, and especially to parent-teachers like myself!
