ShadowNanoflex Active Pickup for Double Bass with Volume and Tone Control

Absolutely excellent product and customer service most places could learn a lot from. My old Microvox sounded good but these are much lighter, far less obvious and I believe they sound noticeably better. I was against modifying my melodeon but the clips for the Feather mics are very small and they are also black so they are virtually invisible against the instrument so I have superglued them on. That makes fitting the mics a ten second job. I believe clear plastic versions are available which would virtually disappear against a lighter coloured background. To quote Arnie, “I’ll be back!” I want one for my mandolin now!

I was impressed how much more punch I got from it than the simpler version. Easy to install. Don’t believe the no feedback promise - it’s positional. I initially set the pre-amp low on the strings underneath the bass, on the cotton wrapping, and the feedback was horrendous. I moved it up closer to the bridge and it’s been fine since.

Fitted to my Bassix semi acoustic upright bass, firstly under the bridge feet (which meant a lot of the pickup pads were not in contact with bass), and now taped directly to the body with black gaffer tape. Superb sound reproduction with nice tone controls depending on how much bass you need. some feedback, but easily controlled by turning bass away from amp. I might try a bit of copper tape over the pickups to shield them. Best I've tried so far...

Sound is adequate. Controls not as comprehensive as previous model, i.e. no phase switch.

I researched several products and this one appealed as the pickup pads under the bridge feet are this such that I didn't have to alter the bridge. It was easy to fit. It is easy to control. The sound from my speaker is true to the bass.

I have been using this pickup for about six or seven years now on my Strunal 5/5 bass. I don't notice my pickup when I am playing, so it is doing a good job.It is solid and reliable, the battery lasts for absolutely ages (compared to the 2-gig lifespan of a 9v battery in my old Fishman preamp), the feedback potential is minimal as the sensors are sandwiched firmly between the bridge feet and the instrument top.If you don't want to mount it between the A and D strings, you can mount it in one of the holes in the tailpiece for the A or D strings.The only downside is the mounting of the battery. When unpacking the instrument out of a cold car and into a warm venue, condensation can appear on the battery surfaces. You need to take the battery out and dry it off, which is a big fiddle. If you'll pardon the pun.
