Product description Four years after his hit comedy The Paleface Bob Hope returned to the screen as Junior Potter son of Painless Peter Potter the hapless hero of the first film. The Harvard-bred Junior heads out west to claim his father's inheritance. Also starring in the sequel is the King of the Cowboys himself Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger who portray themselves. Hope teams with the pair to help get to the sequel is the Oscar-winning song "Buttons and Bows." Co-writer and director Frank Tashlin a former cartoonist and screenwriter of the first Paleface also worked with Hope on The Private Navy of Sgt O'Farrell and wrote and directed several Jerry Lewis films such as Cinderfella and The Geisha Boy.System Requirements:Starring: Bob Hope Jane Russell Roy Rogers Iron Eyes Cody and Trigger. Running Time: (approx.) 95 mins/color. Copyright: l952 Columbia Pictures Television.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: NR UPC: 090096098296 Manufacturer No: 60982-9 .com Bob Hope returned to the wild West in Son of Paleface, mining the rootin' shootin' genre for gag after gag. Hope plays Junior Potter--another variation on his lascivious, cowardly, yet somehow endearing persona--a college boy who's come to California seeking his father's hidden gold. What he finds is an empty treasure chest, a pile of unpaid bills, vengeful Indians, buxom Jane Russell (as a saloon girl by day, wily bandit by night), and singing cowboy Roy Rogers. It's prime silliness, an ancestor to movies like Airplane! that never let a moment go by without an absurd joke. Russell sashays about in spectacular form-fitting outfits, Rogers yodels a few tunes, and Hope snivels and wheedles his way out of endless scrapes. Good-natured slapstick (though its depiction of Native Americans will raise the hackles on politically correct viewers). --Bret Fetzer

DON'T forget to see the first in the franchise: "PALEFACE" !
IF you are under sixty, you won't understand. If YOU'RE an old fart, like ME, I needn't explain.Bob Hope, and Martha Raye, have been favorites, of mine, since their, many, U.S.O. Tours in WWII;Korea; Vietnam; Desert Storm. I have ALWAYS been a fan of the oldie-entertainers that lived to beone-hundred.Recommended!

BLU-RAY REVIEW
The 1953 Western comedy "Son of Paleface" starring Bob Hope and Jane Russell is a sequel to the 1948 film "Paleface", also starring Bob Hope and Jane Russell. Two of Hope's funniest films.Weird:In "Paleface" Bob Hope marries Jane RussellIn "Son of Paleface" Bob Hope, playing the the son of himself and Jane Russell, marries Jane Russell.I'm surprised the censors didn't notice."Son of Paleface" is presented in glorious Technicolor on the new Kino Lorber blu-ray.Written and directed by Frank Tashlin, who had only recently made the transition from being a writer/animator/director for Warner Brothers Cartoon division. There are a number of examples in "Son of Paleface" where Tashlin's cartoon training takes over.- @ 36 minutes into the film, just after the song "Buttons and Bows", Bob Hope drinks a highly alcoholic "Paleface Special" with side-effects straight out of Looney Tunes. One of Tashlin's final animated shorts, "The Lady Said No" (1946) is included as a bonus.Unusual in that it uses puppet animation, not drawings (released by Daffy Ditties).Kino Lorber includes full-length audio commentaries for both "Son of Paleface" and "The Lady Said No".Only regret: No subtitles."Paleface" has not (yet) been released on blu-ray. In the meantime, here is a link to the DVD: The Paleface BUTTON & BOWSThe song "Buttons and Bows" was written for "Paleface", where it was sung by Bob Hope.It won the Oscar for Best Song of 1948("East is east and west is west, and the wrong one I have chose.")The song is repeated in "Son of Paleface" sung in a trio by Jane Russell, Roy Rogers and Bob Hope. The lyrics are altered in several places, and a lot of comedy shtick is tossed in.For links to film clips of the song as performed in both "Paleface" and "Son of Paleface", see Comment One (dated August 29, 2017). ROY MAKES AN IMPRESSION !
It's a great movie! I look forward to the audio commentary. The 3 genres ( western, comedy, live action cartoon ) meshed nicely. This was the first time I saw Roy as being 'cool'! A fan of the three stars I thought Roy would be pushed in the background. When Roy serenades Jane and then turns her kiss down it changed my approach to romantic situations! Her reaction from conceit to bewilderment in the space of one second gave me a key to successfully approach women in the future. Never looked back!

A fun movie
This is definitely a movie I would like my horse to watch. That is if she could ever get past how handsome Trigger is and focus on his abilities. This was a Bob Hope movie and I loved it when growing up. But now Icringe at the disrespect to our native Americans. Jane Russel and Roy Rogers are great though.

This is a classic from a bygone era!
Yes, it's comedy from another time. Yes, a couple of the gags/lines by Hope may not be P.C. by today's standards... so who cares? This is campy fun so turn it on, sit back, and relax enjoying some stars of the big screen who are no longer with us as they play together in this slapstick classic. The color is outstanding. Jane Russell looks absolutely "va-va-voom!" gorgeous in her various wardrobes no matter what she is wearing throughout the film. She's the villian with a heart that you'd love to tame, and watching Hope try throughout the film is a joy. Roy Rogers obviously had a lot of fun in his role, too.Bob Hope is obviously the star here. His outfits are hilarious, and the continuing "Harvard man" gags are terrific. His movies consist of scenes that go from one funny & ridiculous predicament to another, and this one follows that formula just fine. As king of the one-liners, the ones he delivers here are classic. It all seems like innocent fun, something lacking in today's so-called comedies. It is at times a campy farce which makes it all the more appealing. This one has repeated viewings written all over it. Enjoy!

Wonderful classic film - for those who love Bob Hope.
Love the film and shipping was fast and efficient. Best for us was the subtitles, my wife lost her hearing at young age due to Meniere's and films she likes with subs make a huge difference. And as she is a horse owner, this one is a favourite especially when Trigger keeps stealing the blanket from Bob Hope.

Lovely nonsense
`Son of Paleface' has the edge over its predecessor, `Paleface'. Much more lively and sparky. The two stories are similar, in that Hope's wet-buffoon character pursues Jane Russell's hard-nosed character, but there's much more fun along the way.Russell is an outlaw, `The Torch', and Hope is Paleface's son, who has left behind his Harvard education and come out West to claim his late daddy's fortune, bequeathed to him in his will.Of course, there is no fortune - or so it appears - and Hope must therefore fend off the irate citizenry who want him to pay off the debts his father owed them.Roy Rogers plays his usual unblemished, singing cowboy role, with faithful Trigger beneath him. He's been hired to track down The Torch, but of course, is unmoved by her obvious attractions and concerned only with justice. Rogers' affinity with his horse, in preference for Russell's charms, is poked fun at by Hope to good effect.Plenty of silly verbal and sight gags throughout, and it must be said that the screen-double used for Hope in some scenes bears not even a remote resemblance to him.Nonetheless, this film is good fun and raises many a giggle even today. One to sit back and enjoy for its numerous good points.

It's good and helps to be a Bob Hope fan
1952 sequel to The Paleface made in 1948, a comedy western with big stars of its era Bob Hope and Jane Russell in fine fettle, and added attraction of Roy Rogers with his horse the famous Trigger. Very funny from start to finish with Hope's character Junior Potter trying to claim his father's gold from a gang of thieves which is headed by Jane Russell's character and it's not necessary to see the original film before enjoying this one

Far Superior Sequel!
Having been disappointed by Paleface (which really stars Jane Russell with Bob Hope only supporting), I found this film greatly superior. The pre-ramble for Paleface claims it is Bob Hope's best movie. Not so! It is nowhere near it. His best film is The Lemondrop Kid! However, this greatly superior sequel is much better than Paleface. This time Bob Hope is the star and Jane Russell supports. That means this works as a comedy, which Paleface didn't. The plot is simple, Son of Paleface goes out west to get his in heritence, only to find it is lost/stolen/missing, and thinking he has got the money, dozens of creditors his rich father forgot to pay now come debt collecting. Jane Russell plays a very sexy bank robber, and helps this movie. Whereas in the first movie she made it a drama with jokes added, instead of a comedy as this film is.
