A copy of The Black Cat (Without the Cat!)
A good Chinese stainless steel replica of the German K55 Mercator (which is still in production, for a few dollars more). The most noticeable difference is the omission of the post war cat logo, which may appeal to some reenactment groups, although Ottermesser in Germany currently produces the genuine knife without the logo as well. This version uses thin washers between the blade and the handle, causing a visible gap to occur between these parts. There is also a very small "China" mark on the kick (bottom of the blade). An interesting copy of the classic Mercator.

This is a good knife...just like Mercator K55K
Love it so far ! I've had it only a week. I had two mercator K55Ks in carbon steel. I lost one. I ran across the Kriegar Helden Rand (KHR) version. The reviews were good , so I got one. Now, I have the Mercator and the KHR. In a side by side comparison , they look the same except the KHR has no cat logo. Both the Mercator and Kriegar knives are similar in size in side by side measure. Both are about 4 and 1/4 in closed; and 8 in. when the blade is extended. IMHO the blade of the KHR is a tad thicker. IMHO the KHR is as sturdy as the Mercator. The KHR was sharp out the box. The KHR has that slender profile like the mercator. So far. Both knives came without any blade wobble.

I'm Very Pleased With This Chinese Kat Style Knife
I bought this to see if I would like the design enough to warrant buying the authentic classic German version. I really like this knife. The fit and finish on this knife are very good, and it's comfortable in the hand. The lock up on the blade is solid, no blade wobble whatsoever. I bought this knife for around $17, which is a great deal. I have no reservations recommending this knife to anyone interested in this classic design.

a great buy
At present I have five of the original German made models and three of these copies. I see no difference in quality between the Chinese made repro and the German made original. I speak with some expertise as I have been making and collecting knives for over forty years. You will like these knives.

17 will get you 40
I really like it. I know it’s made in China but it smells the same as a German blade, or the 40 year old Japanese copy in have. $17 in China buys a $40 German knife that is every bit as good as the Chinese one. Basically a cheap knife should be cheap.

Nice product.
Sharp, comfortable, carries well.UPDATE:After a couple months of daily carry and use, I'm still impressed. It holds an edge well, requiring only minor touch ups occasionally. It still carries well and I have experienced no failures of the blade, handle scales, lock mechanism, or lanyard loop. It has become one of my favorite EDC tools.

Super sharp HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Great knife, it’s nice and sleek without any writing on the grip like other mercators have. Base plate in the grip is a little loose after a bit but it’s no big deal because it’s only for aesthetics no big deal.
