Product arrived in timely manner and the first one I opened I noticed that one of the phillips screw heads was stripped. There was no instructions. I first tried to install them leaving the screw unscrewed almost all the way but still attached to the lower unit. I could not make it work or go all the way ion the slot. Then I figured out you can unscrew them all the way out, let the lower section fall into the slot then lift the tie down little bar up(its attached to the lower section and put the screw back in and screw tight. Worked like a charm. The screw that was stripped was a problem. I went to ACE and found another screw but it would not screw in, ACE had a metric tap and retapped or re threaded the hole. It was full of paint and other debris. Then it worked like a charm like the others.

The basics of this design are elegant virtually making installation instructions irrelevant. Except relative to my 1993 Chevy C1500 there is NO tolerances built into the tie downs that allow for variations. i.e. my holes were about .020” narrower than the widest point on the tie-down. Such required breaking one (but is still useable) upon removal because it couldn’t and wouldn’t fit until ever so slightly widening each hole for a proper fit.Cautions and a pre-check installation guide SHOULD be included otherwise the installation instructions would simply read: loosen screws. Insert base into hole. Lift base by pulling ring up to allow screws to engage threads and tighten.Otherwise these are tough enuf for light duty usage. For anything more I’d recommend the heavy duty versions easily found with a search under this type of tiedown accessory.
