All the Feels!
Such a sweet story! It is written from Millie's (the dog) point of view. Oh how my heart hurt hearing Millie struggle on the street and why she is motivated to remain a stray. But what a lovely progression for this sweet dog! This is a warm-hearted book for all ages. If you are a dog lover, this one is for you!! Another great read by McCall Hoyle!

Told from a dog's perspective. Loved every book so far!
Kids who love dogs will love the Best Friend Dog Tales. Millie is book three after Stella and Just Gus. But you don't need to read these in any order. They are all stand-alone stories. Our family loves how each story is told from the perspective of the dog. Plenty of heart and action. McCall Hoyle excels at writing for children. I include her in my group of favorite authors, i.e., Kate DiCamillo, Katherine Applegate, Gordon Korman.

Keep reading…it gets good
At first, I didn’t think I’d like this book. My son goes to sleep by reading books or listening to audio books until he’s sleepy and we started this one together (the audiobook format). I really thought the first part where Millie is on the street with Little Pup was boring. I didn’t think I wanted to continue listening the2nd night but my son did so, we continued. The story then adds more characters and though you are still getting the story from the dog’s perspective, you hear the conversations of the people. This is what helps the story get interesting.Since I don’t want to give spoilers I won’t reveal their conversations but I love the characters and their complexities. I love that the story isn’t just rainbows and unicorns and the characters have real problems and issues that can’t be brushed under the rug. I also love that, though this dog has her issues, she creates a bond with her human and they help each other. I’m a total believer of animals being able to help children with their insecurities as I’ve seen this with my own children.I love that McCall teaches about dog training in the book as she weaves her tale. What a great resource for any dog owner with behavior in their dog they want to change. One of our daughters has formed a strong bond with one of our dogs, Joey. Though we call Joey her dog, we know that Joey loves us and cares for us as well. As my son read this book, and realized that dogs can hone in our emotions, he began to see our dog, Joey, in a different light. He noticed, when he cried or was angry, Joey came up to him and licked him. He finally realized, she was there to comfort and, where he just brushed her off before, he made that connection and pet her, which, in turn, made him feel better. Now, he also tries to pay attention to her signals like, when Joey isn’t with his sister and she sits by someone else in the family, she, either senses they are sad or, she is sad or bored because my daughter isn’t paying her attention. If he realizes that Joey is sad, he’ll pet her or take her out to play. Thanks, McCall, for a beautiful story that teaches so many lessons! We’ll be looking for your other books. And keep finding awesome narrators! We love to read but a great narrator can really bring the book to life!

Another good story by McCall Hoyle
Millie by McCall Hoyle is about a stray that is found living on the streets after being dumped. She is scared and snappy but she remembers one kind human that gave her food before she is picked up by animal control. Lee rescues Millie to see if she can train her to help kids at her school. Millie is able to find her person by the end of the story. I read this book with my girls, ages 8 and 11 and we all enjoyed the story. Millie is part of a series about dogs that include Stella and Just Gus. It is a standalone but I recommend reading the others since they are good stories too.

Heartwarming Tale for Dog Lovers
Millie, a Border Terrier, has been living on the streets since being abandoned by her human family. She's sad about losing her dog friend, Big Guy who she looked up to, but is trying to help another young dog called Little Pup.She is distrustful of all humans. One day, she is caught by the dog catcher and taken to a pound. Fortunately, a kind, experienced dog owner takes her. Millie's journey is about learning to trust and see the good in people.Told from Millie's point of view, it's full of all kinds of lessons—learning to trust, being brave, seeing the good in others, and not running away from things that scare us. It's a wonderful story of love and friendship and one that will appeal to dog lovers of all ages.

read with my 4th grader and we loved it
Very easy read. I read this with my 4th grader and we both enjoyed all of the details and the emotions that the storyline brought up in us, as dog lovers. We both recommend that you read this and the book just Gus by the same author. We read that one last summer and loved it just as much. The author does a great job job of getting you into the story so you can feel all the feelings.
