BrooksMen’s Cascadia 17 Trail Running Shoe

Good trail or hiking shoe.
Very comfortable for a trail shoe with nice tread. Fits similar to other Brooks models. I've used these on hikes in Zion & Bryce Canyon National Parks along with numerous trails at home in the month that I've had them. Would buy again.

Great shoe for actual trail running
If your runs cover true singletrack or bushwhacking, nothing beats the Cascadia. I went away from Cascadia for the last several generations. I went down a 1/2 size from my previous US 12 to 11.5 with the Gen 17. The measured stick length inside the shoe is 29.5cm which is exactly what I prefer for my US 12 arch length and orthotics. The Cascadia 17 in US 12 measured 30.0cm. Toe box width and height is more generous than previous versions too. All good for me.Shoes are very stable over rocks and off camber terrain. Traction in loose gravel is excellent but you still can slide out. The soles shed mud nicely too. Wet clay soil around my house turns to cement in the rain and can collect on shoes in 5 pound blobs. I'm not sure if it is the tread pattern or rubber compound, but these shoes quickly shed mud which is great. Some complain about the weight of the Cascadia, but I find the added protection pays dividends when dealing with sharp edge or pointy rocks. My only complaint here is the laces. They are difficult to move through the eyelets to adjust toebox tension yet don't stay tied in a double knot.

Comfortable
Great fit and shoe handles excellent on the trail.

Well made shoes but not wide.
Bought a EE size but it's barely wide in the mid-foot, toebox is okay, not anything special. The shoes themselves are quite good tho, the cushioning is firm but still very comfortable, exactly what I want for a trail shoe. The full rock plate does an excellent job of making rocks vanish underfoot especially when combined with the protective cushioning. The upper seems pretty decent but again could use some more width in the mid-foot area. Still easy enough to get a good lockdown. The outsole is mostly good, nice lugs, a good pattern and the split heel really soaks up uneven surfaces, the compound itself isn't the stickiest rubber I've used however, this is Megagrip levels of traction but it's not terrible.

Passed my expectations!
I’ve been an Altra Lone Peak guy since version 1. The quality/durability has went way down (130miles shoes dead) so decided to try a proven workhorse shoe. Now this shoe if obviously very different from my usual more barefoot design but I have the 1st 5k trail run down in them and I'm seriously impressed.WHAT I’VE NOTICED:1 Stability- is a 10 out of 10. The trail I ran today threw a lot of narrow, tapered down and big quick decents. This shoe hooked up unbelievably downhill. Plant the foot and I just slowed to a manageable speed. Amazing!2. Comfort- Rock solid (pun intended) support. Didn’t have ANY pain post run. Stepped directly on rocks and roots and literally barely noticed them. Toe guard worked amazing as I snagged a root and felt zero pain (would have killed with my Lone Peaks).3. Mobility- they felt a little stiff for the 1st mile but opened up very nicely and really started to mimic my foot well.4. Speed- they felt very slow but I guess it was a mentality thing because I beat my PR for this trail by over 3 minutes. On only a little 5k that’s remarkable.“Slow is smooth and smooth is fast”I noticed much more but don’t want to drone on forever on how impressive these shoes quite literally are.45 years old-Variable mountain terrain-Minus 3 minute PR-

Sturdy with great support but liner is coming apart
I wanted to love these but my experience with these has been mixed. The good: sturdy upper, quality materials, good support and a grippy (at least on dry surfaces) sole. But, the lining of the shoe began to tear after only a couple of months' use, which is not good. So durability hasn't been great at least in my case.

Fit true to size
I have had these a few days and, so far, happy with them. My doctor recommended Brooks (or NB or Asics) trail shoes for support after a bad foot/ankle injury. I find these comfortable.

Ottime

Wrong size
The quality of the shoes was fine but I was sent a UK7 when I ordered and the invoice clearly says a UK8 so I don’t think they should have been sent.
