Excellent timberjack for the average firewood cutter
I purchased this timberjack with a bit of concern looking at the reviews but was surprised when it arrived in a very good way. It, as some have stated, has a very thick base. 3" in diameter I would guess and is very heavy duty in my opinion. I did not use the stand on the timberjack opting to go without. Having cut logs on the ground before I see no need to lift the log up. This is inefficient and doesn't buy you any safety in terms of cutting. I first used it to clear a guys lot of trees he cut down for a new garage. Large group of poplar and ash. Some of the logs were in excess of 18" in diameter. According to the instructions it is designed for a 14" log (I believe, I don't have the instructions in front of me anymore) but it worked on my 22" logs no problem. The largest I rolled was 22" by 8' long and it didn't have an issue. I doubt it would go any bigger. 24" might be pushing it with the jaws. The handle was more than able to turn the 8' length and I believe it would have rolled the full 16' length had I tried (and not cut it in two) but I didn't want to abuse the tool more than I had too. I made my measured cuts using an 18" bar. Cut into the log halfway along the length. Then rolled the log and finished the cut. Kept my blade from ground contact, which is what I wanted, and made the process easy. I would recommend to anyone cutting firewood for occasional use. I use my fireplace all weekend long every weekend and pulled 4 cords of wood when I purchased this tool. It handled the task. No problems.

Sturdy, good fulcrum, well-built
I've used this a few times, and it has made my log cutting much faster. Now I can do bucking with just a couple of moves with this Peavey lifter rather than having to slide cut pieces under the log that I'm cutting. The handle is substantial and the whole thing feels rugged. So far it has worked like a champ.

Good but……
I’d give it 5 stars but the only issue I have with it is the base isn’t wide enough. It tends to tilt over and the log drops. I’m just gonna weld on a couple of pipe extensions and problem solved. Other than that it works great. Big back saver and keeps your chainsaw blade out of the ground. The handle is big and sturdy.

well-built product
I had a monster log that was cut in my yard. Way bigger than this was designed for. I was able to use it to roll sections around for easier cutting. It took a little finesse since the log was over 36 inches thick. The tool is sturdy and well made. I look forward to using it for trees that are more in its design range.

Worth every penny
You want this. I’ve been cutting up a lot’s worth of black walnut and this thing’s ability to keep your blade out of the dirt has saved me from having to change the blade out at all over 4 large trailer loads of hard hard wood. The cross bar lends a nice fulcrum from which you get great leverage. This thing is sturdy and has a hellluva heavy duty handle on it. If you hate the cross bar (trust me, you won’t) you can elect not to install it. All around, this is my new second bestie behind my chainsaw. You want this thing. It’s saving me the time, effort and cost of blade sharpening and swap out. And I burn a lot of wood.

impressively thick handle, loose fitting metal parts
This is sturdy, has a good thickness of handle, but both the hook and the support tee are loose. Both are held in place by bolts but the design is one where there remains some play even when the bolts are tightened. The tee fits into a holder welded to the main body of the tool, with holes drilled in the holder for its two bolts. These welds as well as the ones on the tee itself appear adequate, but only time and use will tell. The handle is initially tight and I haven't used it enough to tell how long it will stay tight. The hook is sharp but it is smallish so I doubt it will work well on anything bigger than a 12-14 inch log. I will come back and update the review after I've had sufficient time to either break it or to see that it won't break with normal use.
