A quite different and quirky book, in a good way
This is a large sized hardback book with pages dedicated to each letter of the alphabet and pictures of different things starting with each letter. All of the letters have a page of black and white pencil style drawings and some of them also have coloured pages with bigger illustrations on.The style of the book is quite old fashioned and unusual, and the words picked for each letter are not the same typical words used in every alphabet book but some more unusual and interesting ones included, for example there are a lot of different flowers and types of animals in there, as well as normal household objects and action words like washing and wiping.I really liked the book, it seems like something that can grow with a child for years because there is a lot of detail in there so lots to come back to, and for children who like drawing the pencil drawings could be used for copying, which I think my sister and I would have done if we had this book ourselves as children. I read it with my 2 year old so used it as a basic alphabet book to help him learn the letter sounds and point at the pictures he recognises. For learning the letters its good that it has both the capital and small versions of the letters on the page (in opposite corners) so they won't get confused by recognising only one of them.I would recommend this book as its something different and will grow with the child from about 2 years+

Gyo Fujikawa's A to Z Picture Book
When I was five I was given "A Child's Garden of Verses" by Robert Louis Stevenson that I used to spend hours reading and looking at the fabulous illustrations. In more recent years - some fifty later ! - I realised that I had yearnings to see this book again as it had been lost or handed down many years ago. It was with great joy I managed to track down a copy and discovered the wonderful illustrations were by one Gyo Fujikawa. Then I discovered on Amazon several other books by her including the "A to Z Picture Book" and I have now started to collect her books. The illustrations are just enchanting and these books will appeal both to young children and students of illustration. The pictures are full of humour and tiny detail that every small child will delight in pointing out. The A to Z not only helps with the alphabet but illustrates childrens up to all sorts of child like activities - some very familiar G is for giggling, and P is for pouting Peter, but also the slightly strange... P is for Pigeon, Penguin,Peacock, Puddle and Polliwogs ! and Z is a small boy asleep on the back of a Zebra zzzzzzJust delightful. Gyo Fujikawa's A to Z Picture Book
