I'm torn on whether I actually like this topper or not. I bought it to #1-help me sleep cooler, and #2- add some extra padding to my too firm mattress. It seems to be well made & doesn't have any strange smells even fresh out of the packaging. -BUT- it is a little narrow for a queen bed (length is fine) and for some reason the edges...where no one sleeps... Has extra padding but the central surface is a bit thin? I don't really understand that, what's the point of thick bed edges? Anyway, it doesn't really give any extra padding where you sleep, and I feel like the princess and the pea thinking about putting yet another topper underneath it. For the price of this thing it should be one and done. It isn't hot to sleep on though like my previous "cool gel" (not) memory foam topper & seems to help me regulate my temp better so there is that.

This did help with making my worn out temperpedic mattress more bareable. It helped with shoulder pain as lam a side sleeper. High quality item!

I bought this to protect and add some cushion to a luxury brand, firm Bloomingdale's mattress; it is doing just that. I've found it adds just enough cushion (for more cushioned comfort) but still provides a firm feel. Keep in mind putting this on a large sponge rather than a firm mattress would give you a different result. It replaced a mostly polyester and thick mattress pad that was quite warm underneath; this is definitely cooler to sleep on!Because this is not washable, I zipped it in a queen cotton allergy protective duvet cover that can be washed, and put it under my fitted sheet. Also someone mentioned in an earlier review.... something about an odor. That is completely false. There is no odor unless you are sensitive to the smell of cotton or wool which literally has no smell in my opinion.

Update 5/29/21- Wow, almost 8 years later and we are just about ready to replace this wonderful topper! We’re mattress shopping again, and this topper has seen us through all of these years with no issues. The only reason I want to replace it is because it’s quite stained from all these years of using by without a mattress pad. I didn’t want to risk taking away the benefit of the temp regulation by covering it with a poly mattress pad so I left it. Otherwise it’s fine. I’m finding after trying two mattresses in a box (Tuft and Needle Original and Happsy) that all mattresses now feel quite firm after sleeping on this for so long. I can’t be without it. Paired with a wool comforter and you can’t beat it for temperature regulation! Worth every penny!Original 2013 Review:Ever since giving birth to my son last year, I wake up often in the night soaked in sweat. I have tried closing the heat registers in our bedroom, using fans, and I've tried different comforters (down and polyester). Nothing has worked. Then, we recently decided to upgrade our queen mattress to a king, and we got a Simmons Beautyrest with a foam topper. Bad idea. Baaaaad. I was waking up every night drenched. Between that and the huge crater I'd find myself in when I woke up, I decided I hated memory foam. But the mattress can't be returned so I decided to try this. Wow. It helps with the feeling of sinking down into the mattress and makes the bed so soft! It does help to keep me cooler, although I still sweat under our down comforter. I ordered a wool comforter today that should take care of that problem. But really, such luxury!I do occasionally smell the wool smell, but it doesn't bother me. I had purchased a Snugglewool blanket for my son when he was born and had to sell it because I could not stand the smell. This does not come close to smelling as strong as that blanket did. It comes in a nice organic cotton bag and the cover itself is so soft and smooth. Really, it's a perfect solution.Pricey, but worth it to solve my sleep issues.

When our waterbed sprang a leak creating a water feature in our house, we opted to replace it with a good memory foam mattress. We were used to a cooler mattress, and the memory foam was all right during the winter and spring months, but with summer temperatures over 100 degrees, and even with a room temp of 74 degrees, it was miserably hot.We researched numerous solutions, deciding on the Organic Merino Wool Mattress Topper, which has exceeded our expectations in every way.The topper arrived in record time, packaged nicely in its own drawstring bag. The bag itself is impressive, sporting a protective flap just below the drawn closure, a very nice touch that signals the high quality of its contents.The topper is beautifully made, from the covering fabric to the excellent stitching. Two elastic bands, one near the head and one near the foot, snug the topper to the mattress ingeniously! We placed the topper on the protective plastic pad that's just over the memory foam and placed the lighter cotton protective pad over the topper. The bed was easy to make as the topper doesn't add much height.The Merino wool topper is just right in every way. It's light and not too thick or dense, so all the benefits and comfort of the memory foam mattress remain intact. The topper creates an ideally natural barrier from the memory foam and plastic liner, making for a cool and comfortable sleep. I bought this to try to reduce heat from my memory foam bed on hot nights. I think it does help. I noticed a very slight odor when I unwrapped it so I left it out overnight. It was fine to put on the bed the next day. Honestly, it probably would have been fine to put it straight on the bed without airing it out. The odor was slight and organic odors, like wool, don’t bother me. It’s about 4-5” too short from side to side but the length is perfect. Basically there is 2-2.5” on each side that the pad doesn’t cover but that doesn’t bother me. You can’t tell at all with the sheets and bed coverings on. The elastic that holds it to the bed is very sturdy. I only wish you could flip it over occasionally but that isn’t possible due to strap placement. I’m glad I bought this.

We recently purchased a great latex mattress. The one problem with it is it retains and builds up heat. This resulted in difficulty sleeping due to the heat from the mattress. The wool mattress topper has significantly reduced the heat to and from the mattress. As a bonus there is a nice soft layer of wool to sleep on.Reviews for this product on Amazon.con indicate some people with a memory foam mattress may also have this heat generation problem.

Excellent for the price, well made, one cannot find this quality and comfort for twice the price. Amazon offering the best price of North America. For those who suffer from back and neck problem and have to sleep on hard surfaces this product is ideal, it cautions the upper level without compromising the rigidity of the mattress.

Comfortable: adds just enough softness to my firm mattress.It does hang over the edge of the mattress; as a Queen size, it is about 64 by 84 instead of 60 by 80.Added May 15, 2016: I'm finding it really comfortable and I'm sleeping better.

I found sleeping on this increased my back pain. Not sure why.
