Unlike most down jackets, the Rab Women’s Valiance Jacket has a robust waterproof, breathable membrane to keep you comfy when you’re winter hiking, climbing in inclement weather, or mountaineering year-round. Most down jackets can’t have a waterproof membrane because it isn’t breathable enough for the down to stay lofty, so Rab uses a Pertex Shield membrane because it has all the breathability down needs to do its job. Pertex Shield is also windproof and has a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish to bead snowflakes and raindrops off the shell’s surface for bolstered protection from wet weather. The lofty, compressible 700-fill down also has a fluorocarbon-free Nikwax hydrophobic finish to retain its lofty warmth even if it happens to get wet. All this protection is sure to keep you warm whether it’s snowing in the alpine or in town. Rab baffled the down in narrow box walls to improve mobility without adding cold spots. There are plenty of adjustments at the hood, hem, and cuffs to batten down the hatches when winter’s at its worst.

Warm!
I love this jacket! It's genuinely warm. I have had other jackets, including a Berghaus down filled parker and none of them has been as warm as this, bar one from about 25 years ago, also made by Rab. The added benefit of this jacket is that it is also waterproof. It's exactly what I wanted: a practical, lightweight, waterproof, warm jacket.I am usually a size 12 and the size 12 was great, with enough room for a fleece or jumper underneath. I also have a down filled Rab gilet in a 12 which is much snugger fitting so I was worried that I would find the jacket small but I am very glad I chose the 12 as the 14 would definitely have been too big. It's expensive but absolutely worth every penny. I hope I still have this one in 25 years like the first one I bought!
