Well built if not for loose hooks & twisted rope.
I bought 2. One is fine. One is not. Thus 4 not 5 stars. The hooks on one are loose, and there is a twist in the rubber-ish "rope", so even when tightened, the hooks do not line up with each other, or with the curve in the rope.Misaligned hooks defeat the usability of the tool. Imagine buying a new car, and the front tires flop any which way. There is heat shrink tubing over the threaded end of the hooks that must be cut off in order to epoxy the threaded hooks so they stay tight & lined up.Truly, the hooks should be properly affixed and the rope properly bowed & packaged accordingly at the factory.I could return the defective one, but there is no assurance that I'd get a good one in return, because others have experienced the same issues. So I'll fix it with JB Weld on the threads after lining the hooks up.They are otherwise very well built, almost indestructible, if they are, like any other tool, cared for and used only for their intended purpose. I recomend them over tongs, because the wood pieces are held close to the body and in line with your direction of travel, rather than held sideways with tongs, thus, hitting your legs when you walk while holding the wood out and away. These are excellent tools for packing wood, especially wet, muddy, burnt or frozen wood. Search for videos online.I bought them to load rounds in my truck after bucking up a tree in the woods. With 2, I can easily pick up pieces by bending my knees, not back, and carry a balanced load of 2 cut 16" pieces, cutting my steps and leg work, in half. I have RA, and my joints are mostly destroyed and fused. These allow me to still be independent enough to cut and load my own wood, and get some good exercise, with less strain & pain. We've joked that my hands would work better if they were replaced with hooks. Well, that has proven to be true with these and handling, or, rather, hooking firewood. Now, if I can just figure out how to use them in place of my hands to hold and operate my chain saw....

Good price but needs some TLC
This item is a good deal for what it is but you will find it needs a bit of tweaking. The hooks have a threaded end that screws into the "handle" part. Problem is that they are not tightened up at the factory. If you don't tighten them they will spin around and end up pointing in the wrong direction. Not a big deal to tighten them yourself, just point them in the right direction and tighten the lock nut with a wrench. If you have some Loctite put it on the threads before you tighten them and it will never come loose again. Also, the black shrink tube on the ends will fall off right away. Not a big deal as it serves no purpose. They work fine without it. Not really sure why they put it on in the first place.

Sturdy
Seems like it will do the job. Saw someone use it on television and immediately bought for a present.

worth it's weight in gold
Absolutely amazing product....especially for the price. Not only are these actually FUN to use, they are extremely functional and helpful. They make lifting and carrying wood a snap. You'll get used to them within your first few lifts and and realize the simple yet brilliant design. You can also use these with logs longer than instructed by just grabbing the width of the log. Won't work all the time but most is successful. A note on safety. Anything to do with logging and harvesting lumber can be dangerous. Just take precaution to not have your foot under a heavy log when lifting with these. I'm not saying they WILL fail, but in case a slip in the hooks happens your foot won't be under there. You'll see when you try you may have a tendency do do this. Just take caution is all. 5 star product hands down...and the affordable price makes them even sweeter.

They work.
They work great! Had to sharpen points. Hard to use on shorter logs.My tip. Store in a can that keeps the hooks together. Or tie them or wrap something around them. When you go to use it the rubber handle keeps the hooks together and you can grab shorter logs with one hand

Doesn't grab dry hardwoods
Good idea, but points needed alignment and sharpening and it doesn't readily grab dry hardwood (oak) logs. Maybe when points are very sharp it will work better.

Very useful
These make hauling, splitting (with a gas powered splitter), and stacking wood much easier and faster. I would say that you will get twice as much wood processed in the same amount of time. They are sturdy and easy to use. You won't be sorry that you bought them. In my experience these are stronger than you are. I was picking up 24 inch thick logs and there wasn't an issue. I forgot to mention you should buy two or I don't see the point. Also, if you need any further reasons to get them then you can figure that they will save you a lot or wear and tear on your work gloves which can be pretty expensive.

Work great! Buy them in pairs!
I bought a pair of these and used them today.Loaded 3 cords of oak. Some of the logs weighed over 80 lbs each. The timber claws worked flawlessly on logs up to approx. 18" and as short as 14".It takes only a minute or so to learn to grab a log one handed... It only requires a flick of each hand, and you are on your way to the truck!I cut, load, split, and stack about 10-12 cords of wood a year, and I usually work alone, so this tool will be a major help to me!Don't hesitate to get a pair of these, you'll be glad you did!

These work great.
Not having to bend over and carry a stump in front of you makes these worth the purchase. You don't have to bend over half the time or half as far. And carrying the logs beside you is much better and probably more ergonomically correct.Buy a pair as carrying one on each side is easier than just carrying one.You can lift heavier logs than usual because of this.Your hands aren't as cut up after a day of splitting.Theres little to no chance of having a finger pinched between two logs using these. So many pluses. I'll never be without these again

A bit limited in usefulness re length of pieces you want to pickup.
I bought this and the tongs. I found the tongs easier to use because the log pieces that I had to pick up weren't the ideal length of 16" and therefore would recommend the tongs rather than this item. (Same vendor/brand)However other folks may find these quite good if all the logs are the right length of 16".When they are the right length, this works very well, but I had pieces cut by someone else who it seems has no idea what 16" means when cutting.

Never thought there could be a tool to help pile wood like this.
I had to give the tough timber claw a try once I saw it on Amizon. I get a load of logs every two years and once blocked it's a hard job on the back either piling or splitting. The Claw works great. It gives me better control of the blocks with just one hand than I ever had with two. Once hooked it never lets go and the ones that don't seem to want to hook are easily fixed by changing your hand position.

The ends come lose and turn such that you can’t ...
The ends come lose and turn such that you can’t just scoop and go. I fixed with some locktite cement to keep the hooks oriented correctly. With my own modification, these units work perfectly and a a massive work + back saver. 4 star as is, and 5 if they do the fix I did.

Very Helpful Tool
I purchased this tool with the hopes that it could help speed up the process of cutting wood. I bought two Timber Claws, one for each hand, and it certain helped to speed up the process. It also allowed me to carry large logs at my sides rather than scratching my wrists by carrying then under my arms. Great product!
