Easy to fill, easy to clean, quiet, effective
Living in New England, I have had many different humidifiers over the years. None have been 100% satisfactory, regardless of the price. When my last humidifier conked out, I researched large-capacity ultrasound humidifiers & decided to try this Pure Guardian Top-fill unit.First of all, I limited my research to ultrasound because of past experience. I have tried the evaporative variety, but can't stand how mold & hard chemical deposits will grow on the wick, especially since there is no way to clean the wick. The only solution is to replace the wick. The evaporative type are also noisy as they depend on a heavy fan to evaporate the water. My experience with ultrasound humidifiers is that any noise is just the water dripping from the top or an occasional gurgle as the water cycles down into the ultrasound portion.Cleaning has always been an annoyance, as all humidifiers should be cleaned regularly - weekly seems to be the interval that works best for me. Most of the humidifiers had corners I just couldn't access easily, & so slime would grow there. This humidifier has an open top & is easy to access all corners. The tube is also easily cleaned with a bottle brush. I do have some difficulty cleaning one small area of the tube where there is a spring, but a straw cleaner takes care of that. And in the top, I remove the vent parts & again easily clean those. And, another welcome feature, is that the manufacturer has treated the tank surface, so mold or slime do not grow on the sides. And, of course, as others have mentioned, the bottom-fill variety is awkward to fill and heavy to pick up, carry, and turn over onto its base. I often filled mine in the tub, and then had to bend over to pick it up, & I often wondered what damage I was doing to my back in the process. My 96-year-old mother actually ruptured the tendon in her bicep a few years ago when she was trying to put the bottom-fill tank back on the base & tried to catch it as it fell, which is why I first started looking for a top-fill. Since then I have bought her several top-fill humidifiers, evaporative as well as ultrasound; none of have lasted more than a couple of winter seasons & some only one winter. So, after my own experience with this humidifier, I bought one of these for her, & she loves it. It is easy to fill, using a watering pot or with a re-purposed plastic milk jug to carry the water to the unit & refill it. Another nice feature is the auto-shutoff: the humidifier will automatically shut off when it runs low on water, which gives my mother & us peace of mind in case we are not home to replenish it.One disadvantage to the ultrasound humidifiers is that they do add a layer of white "dust" to the room. Of course that is annoying, & it could be avoided by using distilled water because all chemicals are removed. I haven't bothered with that because I would need to buy 1 or 2 gallons a day, & that is not something I am willing to do. I believe that is true in general of ultrasound humidifiers. In our current home, however, I have not seen the white dust, so perhaps our water here is softer than where we've lived previously. In the past year I have bought 5 of these Pure Guardian for us & others in our family - three 2-gallon & two 1.5-gallon units. Of those, one stopped working after a month. That's when I experienced the excellent level of support from Pure Guardian with their 3-year warranty. On their support website, I downloaded the return form, boxed up the defective unit, paid return postage, & within 2 weeks received a brand new unit which I am now enjoying.I do not enjoy cleaning or filling any humidifier, but these have made a hated chore much less irksome. The price seems very reasonable, compared to others I have purchased. So if you need a humidifier, I highly recommend this one or the larger 2-gallon unit. Besides the tank size & price, the other main difference is that the smaller unit does not have the option to heat the water first - a feature I don't use, though it might be useful in a nursery or other environment.

Great Buy
Pure Guardian humidifiers are more expensive because they are well-built, reliable, and last for years. I have 3 Pure Guardians (two 2 gallon and one 3 gallon) in my 700 square foot apartment. They all run 24/7. Walking into my apartment is like walking in a Rain Forest. I love it: I breathe easier, no more dry skin, my squeaky wooden floor have swollen to their original width (so no more squeaks), my hair is curly and my inside plants are growing new leaves.BUT double read the cleaning instructions SERIOUSLY. If the silver ultrasonic disk has a hard water stain, the unit does not work. I clean mine every weekend with a QTip soaked in vinegar.

50/50
This humidifier works pretty well. I did purchase two, however one of the humidifiers didn’t put out too much missed. I tried following the instructions and doing everything correctly to the best of my ability, however I did have to return one of them. Otherwise the noise level is very very low. You don’t not even know that it’s operating in the background. It does give you an a little nightlight that you can turn on if you want to light up the room before you go to bed. The humidifier also gives you different levels of mist that you want to produce depending on your comfort level. This is a humidifier we can fill water from the top as opposed to other humidifiers where you have to take out the whole canister and fill it underneath The canister. The cleaning is a bit more tedious as there is a long winded compartment from where the mist needs to escape from the humidifier.By using CLR, I was able to remove some of the calcification buildup. Next line aside from one of my humidifier is not working, I think this product is operational. Because of this mishap, it’s a 50-50 shot Where do you get one operating till what it supposed to do versus not at all.

Makes its own cloud
This vaporizer is the most dependable I have ever owned. The steam making vaporizers just corrode and get covered with any mineral in the water. As the heating plates corrode, it just takes more electricity to get less vapor. This cool mist humidifier makes such a good stream of vapor, it looks like a cloud. I'll bet they quit making such a good product soon, but this is the only model I will buy for as long as I can get it.

Did not last a year
I purchased this humidifier on December 20, 2020 and it stopped blowing mist on December 11, 2021. It worked well the winter of 2020-21. I brought it back out last week and it worked well. Then it began to stop blowing steam just air. Finally, it blows only air. It has been cleaned. I followed all the troubleshooting suggestions. It isn't very durable especially for the money over $50. I know there is a warranty, but the fine print indicates we have to pay the cost of sending it back to the company. Not great customer service I would say and doesn't seem like they stand behind their product if they are not willing to pay for return of a humidifier that should have lasted.

DIED AFTER 1.5 MONTHS.
Product lasted only 1.5 months . Worst warranty ever. Amazon decided to give me a one time exception and refund my purchase. I will now buy another brand from Amazon.

Mist doesn't work on lower or mid dial setting.
I bought this humidifier so I didn't have to keep filling and moving my old one from room to room every day, for ease of filling and length of time before refilling. Purpose is for my senior furkid that needs a moist mist which helps ease her cough.I used the Pure Guardian first time last night, barely worked on the lower dial setting, barely a visible mist. This morning NO mist , that night I set to Max. next morning I noticed tank was almost empty and an extreme amount of Mist and water on the lid, which was not the case when the tank was full.In the picture the humidifier is 18 inches away from my bed and on a 2.5 ft high bench. the surrounding area is all wet. My older humidifier sat in the same place and never made anything near it wet, nor does it need a rubber mat and there is a visible mist on whatever setting it is on. Unlike Pure Guardian. I tried the troubleshooting in the guide but nothing I did fixed the problem of no mist on lower settings, even though this was a first use.I'll try the Pure Guardian humidifier for a few more nights and if there is no improvement on the lower settings I will be returning the unit., I don't think any amount of use will be an improvement.FYI: you need a rubber mat under this unit. and No Refund!! and now I have to buy a rubber mat for under it and stuck with a unit I'm very disappointed in.

Second One of These Units
I had bought the two gallon model of this unit and run it 10 months of the year, 24/7. I loved it.It did finally die. It probably was an easy fix, but I gave it to someone with more skills in that area and bought this small, but newer model. It's great. Top fill. Shoots out lots of mist. It's 1.5 gallons so running on high, it goes for about 12 hours. Auto shut off. Easy clean. This model has a sliding knob to adjust level of moisture, which is nice and easy to use. It has a nice blue nightlight that glows up the tank that is on and off via a push button. I clean mine once a week with a baby face cloth and use the provided mini brush for the hard to reach spots.Tip: Make sure when you're filling to not get water down the mist tube. Or tip it when it’s full getting water in there. That’s why you get those horrible noises from the machine.

Vents need to be redesigned, otherwise a solid humidifier
Decent humidifer at a decent price that kicks out a TON of steam on the high setting. The issue we have is that if you have it set above about 3/4 steam, the two-part split rotating vent catches some of the water and it builds up on top of the unit, which has a slight dish-shape. We once left it unattended all day and the water overflowed the dish and leaked down the sides of the unit, soaking the coffee table. (Drilling a pinhole in the top of the cover would probably solve this, may try that). The unit also makes a faint dripping sound at intervals as the water feeds through the unit and the fan makes a slight but constant whine - if you're a light sleeper you may not like it, but we stopped noticing it after the first night. The nightlight can be turned off, but the power light is a piercing blue that's so bright it lights up the room by itself at night and you can't do anything about it but put a piece of tape over it. Mechanically, though, it's been running non-stop for about a month and a half with no problems. I also love that you only need to fill the 6 litre tank once a day. We use water from a reverse-osmosis system, and there's absolutely no white powder buildup - so far we've wiped it down once inside just because we felt we should, but there was no build of anything that needed to be cleaned and the antibacterial coating keeps anything from growing in the tank. Very functional unit with very high humidity output.

nice features but inconsistent and don't last
pros. The light turns off, it's relatively quiet, top fill is really nice and easy, no filters, relatively easy to clean.cons. we have 3 and the mist is inconsistent, sometimes full on is small amount of mist, easily turned by cats or people walking by as it's a free turning knob, one only lasted just over a year so expensive if you need to keep replacing. Gets noisier the longer you have the product. The other 2 we bought also only lasted just under 2 years. One, the knob just stopped working, the other got super hot and stopped working. No, I would not recommend.
