This wooden box came wrapped tightly in plastic. When I opened it up, it smelled so strongly of petroleum distillates that I had to take it outside before I got asphyxiated from the VOC’s. My husband said it smells like they stained it with used motor oil. It’s made in India, so who knows. The odor got on my hands, too, just from touching it. For the price you’d think they could use a better quality stain. Because the rosewood box itself is really nice. It looks like an intricately hand-carved piece of vintage art. The elephants and vines are beautiful brass inlays. The edges of the wooden box are reinforced with flat metal strips of brass. The inside is lined with fancy red velvet. With its carved designs and inlays, the box looks like an exotic antique. Not just for girls and women, it would be good for guys’ treasures too, such as coins and keepsakes. There is a brass latch with a hole in it so you could add a tiny lock. Unfortunately, the way it smells, this box is not giftable. UPDATE: I left the box outside overnight and it still smelled. Leaving the box open, outside, for an entire 24 hours in the wind and the sun, helped to dissipate the smell finally. But I'm still afraid to touch it, not knowing what chemicals are on it.

Truly a beautiful jewelry box. It is handmade of rosewood and hand carved with three elephants on top. The edges are hand carved with maybe a vine or flowers. Hard to tell, but the middle is slightly raised piece of wood with three gold elephants embedded into the wood. It can lock but the key and lock did not come with it. It does have an oil based odor but I believe that is the polish used to finish the wood. I don't believe it's toxic or harmful. If you're concerned about it, leave it outdoors for a few hours. I only smell it when I open the box. This can hold several pieces of jewelry or accessories. Great Christmas gift.

Analysis:- Rosewood boxes are premium and well-made products- Can be used as a jewelry box or any small item holder- Cna be wiped clean but need to avoid soap or any cleaners.- Comes in various sizes and designs

This box is clearly handmade (in a good way) and is very beautiful. The red material on the inside wasn't properly glued but that's an easy fix and could've been affected by the cold during shipping. My only problem is when I unwrapped it there is a very stong toxic smell emanating from the box inside and out - I think it might be wood varnish or something? Doesn't make me want to gift this to anyone. Set it by the window and hopefully the smell will eventually go away because I won't want to gift it or use it myself if it doesn't.
