"The Ritz, A Gay Farce That Broke The Mould"
On his deathbed Carmine Vespucci's father tells him to "get Proclo" his son-in-law, with "the hit" on, Gaetano Proclo (Jack Weston) tells a cab driver to take him where Carmine can't find him. He arrives at the Ritz, a New York gay bathhouse. As Cleveland Sanitation Company owner Gaetano Proclo reasons, this New York all-male bathhouse is the perfect place to hide from his murder-in-mind brother-in-law Carmine (Jerry Stiller). But Gaetano finds he is amorously pursued by "chubby chaser" Claude Perkins (Paul B. Price) and by Puerto Rican semi-diva torch singer Googie Gomez (Rita Moreno) who believes him to be a Broadway producer (a riotous performance that won her a Tony Award). His guides through the Ritz are gatekeeper Abe, Ritz habitué sardonic screaming queen Chris (F. Murray Abraham) and bellhop/go-go-boys Tiger and Duff. Squeaky-voiced private detective Michael Brick (Treat Williams) and his employer Carmine do locate Gateano at the Ritz, as does his wife Vivian (Kaye Ballard). This dated, but all the more funny farce will have you rolling about the floor with laughter. When are they going to bring it out on DVD????

See anything you like,Mister?? You bet!
High camp, and virtually non-stop laughter from start to finish, this film has it all: based in a gay sauna, the story unfolds with some of the weirdest and funniest characters you could ever imagine! Inuendo and one-liners are rib-tickling. I can't imagine ANYBODY - gay or straight - not finding this film hysterically funny; it's one of those films I've watched at least half a dozen times, and I often have highly amusing images of it spring to mind for no apparent reason, other than something/someone in real life reminds me of it! Watch it by yourself, but watching in a group is much better, because the comedy and laughter is totally infectious. Unless you are a very "sensitive" type to this kind of scenario, there is absolutely NOTHING about this film that is offensive. Highly recommended...as is a pack of tissues to wipe away the tears of laughter!

Rita Moreno stars
Omg, an outrageous campfest set in a gay bath house (sauna) in the USA, I couldn't stop laughing at the plots and charecters, even peter butterworth is in it wearing cowboy chaps.Rita Moreno is ultra camp as the hired caberet act. It's a brilliant watch and will bring a smile to ya face

A delightful gay farce
Other reviewers have already covered most I would wnat to say but quite simply this film is a laugh from start to finish. Subtle humour mixed with slapstick and farce; over acting from Googie the diva with no voice but always looking for her Mr Big "movie producer" (watch out for a final llaugh on that topic!) A host of fine actors keep the action going from start to finish with innuendo and silent comedy thrown in for good measure.I agree....it should be out on DVD by now !!

Full of Laughs and Giggles
This movie is not for kids, but teens along with adults will appreciate its racy humor even though it's a few decades old. The story of miscommunications and mistaken identifies set in a New York a male bath house with superb acting by Jack Weston, Rita Moreno, Treat Williams, and many others will keep you laughing and giggling. You'll want to watch it again and again so you don't miss any little detail.

A trip down memory lane
I first saw this on TV some years ago and thought it was hilarious. It is in the best traditions of an english farce and although the location may be an historic anomaly the general theme is still excellent - murder for money and revenge and mistaken identities.

A Gay Old Time In New York
This rollicking comedy is set in a time when these kinds of bathhouses existed. But what makes this movie is the talent of the cast. F. Murray Abraham, Treat Williams, Jack Weston and Jerry Stiller are each quirky and hilarious, but the reason you will want to buy this movie is the over-the-top acting of Rita Moreno as Googie Gomez as she plays off all the other characters.Weston is slated to be assassinated by his father-in-law, and his brother-in-law Stiller is more than willing to make that happen. Weston runs to New York City and hides in a sleazy, Gay bathhouse where he encounters Abraham, Williams and Moreno. This movie was the film adaptation of the hit Broadway show.
