Fiberglass Supply Depot White Gelcoat - NO Wax - Quart with 15cc Hardener (MEKP)

I was looking for a way to spray gel coat a pair of rail mounted helm seats that I made for my sailboat. After researching it, I used this gel coat (no wax) mixed 1:1 with the Duratec High Gloss Additive and sprayed 2+ coats with a inexpensive HVLP spray gun with 1.8 mm tip. Worked great. There was a very small amount of orange peel which laid down nicely as the gel coat cures. Nice gloss as well.Prior to spraying, I was expecting to have to wet sand, compound and polish the cured gel coat, but in the end, the orange peel was so slight that I didn't bother. Saved a lot of time.

The lower part of the resin hardens in less than 45 minutes but there is a slimey layer that floats to the top which does not cure even if left for days. This is not the tacky layer that lets you apply additional coats to build thickness. If you add more than one coat, then sand, you sand into the slime between layers. It chips at the edge of the slime because the slime didn't harden and the slimey boundary between layers is a permanent and obvious flaw in your work. I had to sand all of it back off and used gelcoat from a different manufacturer, which worked a charm first time!
