Essence Paperback – June 5, 2017

For those of us whose experiences are often left out of stories and books, for those who daydream about relationships that we wish we were brave enough to try, and for those who question how love is possible in a variety of forms, Essence brings out the lover and the wonderer in us all. Understanding our life through others' experiences and understanding our own experiences through others' lives, this book is heart-felt, written with character and with truth. Essence is highly enjoyable and entertaining while meaning a whole lot more for many of us. Bravo!

It's no secret that LGBTQ narratives are often left out of fiction writing, and when they are mentioned its usually very narrow conceptualizations of LG people. I really love the way the author centers the story on bisexual, polyamorous, and intersex experiences. It's also great to see a story that takes place in the south (since so much LGBTQ writing takes place in more northern metropolitan areas). The characters are lovable but also real and the story pulled at my heartstrings while also making me laugh. Definitely check this one out.

One of the best bi+ young adult books I have read so far!

Such a great book and made greater by the fact that it is filled with characters from the LGBT+ community. I loved seeing how the characters develop through the story. It might be a story but there is a lot of realism to it that many people can relate to. A great addition to the fictional world. I highly suggest reading this book.
