Remington 870 Review
This is an excellent reference book for any 870 owner or one just interested in good shotguns. The material presented was extensive making it valuable for thosewho ask "why" about this gun. I actually enjoyed the pictures and reprints a bit more than anything else.I loaned it to two friends. The first one really spoke highly of itwhen he returned it. I haven't been able to get the second fellow to bring it back yet.

I purchased this book (The Gun Digest Book of the Remington 870) on Amazon.com. It is filled with a lot of nice photographs and a little bit of interesting history. The book is primarily a coffee table book. It contains photographs of all of the brochures and advertisements on the 870 since it was first offered. I was hoping for more of an educational shop manual but it's not there. You may like it.

Gun Digest Book of the Remington 870
Fantastic! This book is chocked full of useful information on the Remington 870. I could have shot this gun for years without knowing half of what is contained in these pages. I would recommend this for anyone who wants and needs information on the Remington 870. Mr. Hahn certainly knows what he is talking about in regards to this gun.

Not a manual but historical.
TMI actually. Very historical with some repeat info. Overall quite good. The older advertising that is presented is very interesting. My copy was printed/assembled with the cover upside down and backwards. Seller compensated.

nice book
I'm already trying to sell it, since I don't love 870's THAT much. It is well done, although, and generally worthy of a coffee table (wife won't allow that!).

Hard cover, wide range of 870 models
Great illustrations, specifications, and company history. Covered a wide range of models, their history, along with historic advertising. Cover depicts Remington's 10 millionth model 870 manufactured 13 April 2009.

Give this one a miss, unless you are after a coffee table book that's high on colour photos and low on content.
I have a lot of reference books on shotguns. Most of them draw on a wide range of sources, and cover different aspects: be it changes to component parts, product development, production issues, serial number/date tables, ammunition & accesories, etc.THIS book seems to give the impression that it was researched from old Remington catalogues & a couple of press release articles & gun magazine reviews. No in depth information. No index at the rear of the book. No list of serial numbers by year, etc. etc. etc.Every page, or not too far from it, has a facsimile reprint of a page from a Remington catalogue....plus a few extra words of text.It may be the best book on the 870, but it's the ONLY book on the 870 - and for a gun with a production total of over 10,000,000 - it's a sad effort that reflects badly. This book could have been so much more!! If I had seen a copy prior to buying, I'd have not made the purchase, as there is NOTHING NEW here that you could not otherwise see from a Remington Arms Catalogue!!For more in-depth information on the 870 look at the Cranfield book "Combat Shotguns", or the Swearengen book "Worlds Fighting Shotguns"Give this one a miss, unless you are after a coffee table book that's high on colour photos and low on content.
