Shepard Fairey Inc: Artist, Professional, Vandal

I became aware of Shepard Fairey through the pages of Juxtapoz magazine some years ago, but I had already seen some of his images without realising it; he is most famous globally for his Obama “HOPE” poster, his OBEY clothing line and his “We The People” series of posters/prints.A street artist, graphic designer, illustrator and political activist, he's one of the most successful and best known artist to have emerged in the last decade.This beautifully presented hardback book from Titan seems to have been overlooked in favour of other collections/surveys of his work when it comes to reviews; it offers a very decent and comprehensive overview of Fairey`s work (at least up to it's publication date, 2014); his work isn't particularly colourful – black/white/red, maybe some blue, silver, but his bold and sometimes intricate designs have the impact of Soviet constructivist posters, agitprop against rampant corporate capitalism and latterly, the obscenity of the Trump regime.You'll gather that I admire this artist's bold stance.Fairey has been very active in recent years, to such an extent that this book is already a little out of date – the Obama poster and “We The People” don't feature in the book – but if one is looking for an affordable introduction to his work, this is a decent and thoughtfully designed volume.
