Fun Game!
We had a LOT of fun playing this Horse Race Game! The game board and pieces are substantial and beautiful. The wooden board is heavy, smooth, and attractively labeled. The playing cards are coated and nicely designed. A drawstring bag is included and is large enough to hold the two die, 12 horses, two boxed decks of cards, and instructions (if folded). The single folded instruction sheet has a simple graphic on the outside with Game Play text on the inside. While we love the game, we were not overly impressed with the spelling/spacing errors or the actual game instructions, which are helpful but not complete. We found it confusing to deal out all the cards (minus Aces, Kings, and Jokers) because all (too many!) cards remain in hand after discarding the ones matching the scratched horses. It also means that all winning cards remain active and the Pot always divides by 4. This lessens the excitement of the winnings for us, especially if we want the Pot to grow in the event that Nobody wins the round. We like the possibility of the Pot being even bigger for the next round. We played as follows, deciding that every player would be dealt, and own (bet on), the same predetermined # of cards and horses (3,4,or 5…) per round. What we did:1. Deal the predetermined # of cards (3,4,or 5…) to every player. Note how these card #s identify the horses in lanes 2-10, 11(Jack), and 12(Queen).2. Following the included game instructions, scratch (disqualify) 4 of the horses by rolling the dice and totaling the two numbers. The first roll is to position a horse in the first row directly behind the Starting Line. Roll again for a different number, and place that horse in the second row behind the Starting Line. Repeat until four horses are scratched from the race.3. If a player’s hand has a card that matches a scratched horse, that card is discarded and a penalty paid before the race begins.4. During the race, each roll of the dice results in one of two actions: 1) A horse moves ONE space toward the Finish Line, or 2) A penalty is paid to the Pot.5. Penalty required can simply be 1 token (a chip*, a penny, a dollar, etc), or you can vary the penalty by the position of scratched horses: Row 1 Horse = 1 token Row 2 Horse = 2 tokens Row 3 Horse = 3 tokens Row 4 Horse = 4 tokens4. Racing: Each turn is one roll to ‘race and advance’ OR ‘pay a penalty’ if that # is a scratched horse.5. When a horse crosses the Finish line (no matter who rolled the winning move), any player holding a matching card in their hand will win a portion of the Pot. If multiple players hold the winning card, the Pot is divided by the number of matching cards and distributed accordingly. Ex: There are 3 matching cards. Divide the Pot by 3. Player A has two cards and wins 2/3 of the Pot, while Player B has one and wins 1/3 of the Pot.* When using chips, if something more tangible than the title of Winner is desired, consider a prize box ‘choice of’ of candy, gift cards, toys, etc.

Box came damaged.
Nice enough product but the box came in scrunched in on all corners as if it were rolled off a pallet. Not gift worthy.

One of the funnest games I have ever played- good with tons of people- or just two
My husband and I played this horse racing game for the first time but the board was larger than this. We wanted to keep the large board at our home to play ourselves and have guests over to play- but we go to friend's and families' homes where we want to bring this game to play- because it is one of the funniest games my husband and I have played (together and apart) in our lives.I brought this game to a friend's house where we had a game night- and we played with nickels (because this is a fun betting game). You can use different amounts of money or poker chips too (the larger board came with poker chips- which we used to bet when my husband and I played at home). However, this smaller board does not come with any implements to bet with- so you need to supply some poker chips, and change- something to bet with. The board comes with two decks of cards, 11 metal horses (in 3 different metal color shades), two dice, and a bag to put all these items in (except for the board). The object of the game is to get one horse to the finish line.First, you take out everything except the number 2- everything in between up to the Queen card (which means the K, A, and jokers go) and deal the cards to your players. Then you roll the dice (both at once) and scrap one horse. Each player looks in their hand to see if they have the same number of scrapped horse. Say a player rolls a three- whoever has a three in their hand, puts five cents (or whatever you pick for the value) into the pot. There are four 3s in the deck- so there are 20 in the pot from all the players. You do this for three more horses until four horses are scrapped (which means they don't run the race). Then it is time to get the horses running. One player rolls first and if they roll an active horse (one that has not been scrapped)- it advances. However, if they roll a scrapped horse- say that same 3- they put 5 in the pot for the number of 3 cards in their hand. For instance, if you roll that 3 and have two 3 cards in your hand- you put 10 in the pot. And, if you have three- you put 15, four, 20. During the race- only the player who rolled the number of the scrapped horse- puts it into the pot. The other players do not put anything in the pot until it is their roll and only if they roll a scrapped horse and have that same number of the horse in their hand. You keep rolling and repeating this step until one horse is the winner. So say the 12 horse wins- anyone with a Queen (the card for the twelve horse) wins the pot. However, there should usually be more than one winner- as there are 4 Queen cards that have been dealt. And unless one player has them all (a rarity)- the pot is split- depending on the number of Queen cards the player holds. Say for instance one player has three Queens- they win 75% of the pot. This game was so much fun every time I played- but the best with just my husband and I. However it is fun to play with many more people too- and just how many seems a little limitless. Because- as long as everyone gets at least one card- the game can be played. I wish I could get enough people together to play like that- not only because it seems like a lot of fun- but also because there will be multiple winners. That there can be multiple winners is the best part of the game- to me. Because even though I don't push to win- not terribly competitive (my primary goal in playing a game is to have a good time)- I know many people do. And this game can have up to four winners who each would split 25% of the pot.A great date night for single and multiple couples- family reunions would be a blast with a game like this. I have never had so much fun in the last two decades with a game- as I have with this one. However, the greatest is that this makes a lovely display piece in your home- as we have received so many questions and compliments about ours- since we have put it on display in our home.If anyone has any questions about this item, feel free to reach out and ask.

fun, fun, FUN! A quality set, too!
The Qhdeergu horse racing game set arrived with ponies, a very well built game board, cards, dice, and instructions. The horse race game is luck based - turns of the cards and rolls of the dice advance (or retard) your pony's position relative to the field. It is perfect for betting, etc. in a friendly game. The board is very high quality (looks like birch, to me, but, not a wood expert) and bears nice accouterments. The horses are heavy metal, gold/brass in color. One can use the game rules (really, folks, have someone who knows English write these, please), or just invent your own. With the addition of some poker chips for betting, one is all set for a night of good clean fun!I like the game, I like the game set, I like the price. $57 or so is well worth every penny - after all, six people for any cinema is going to be $150 by the time each person has a handful of popcorn and a soda, much less an adult beverage. Well done!Rating : 5 stars! Superb, buy now! 4: Solid, few flaws, good value. 3: Most common. Good product, fair value. 2: Flawed, poor value. 1: LandfillDisclaimer: Amazon Vines, product provided at price of US taxation, not gratis.
