The brass tacks and nothing but the Tacks!
I bought this tissue dispenser because it is very unusual are out of the ordinary and besides having an octagonal shape, it is decorated in a very ornate way which I have never seen before, with wooden accents, as well as brass nail heads. I also love the brass flowers against the gold/green background. To load your tissue box first take your tissues out of their original box and carefully load them into the top of the holder, unlocking the beautiful brasslatch, which allows the whole top to pivot open on hingesYou then place the tissues in the box, bottom first, which allows the first tissue to naturally come up through the hole. Of course you need to choose Pop-Up tissues, and I strongly recommend that you use a quality 3-ply tissue in your container, so that when you pull the next one, it pulls through in one piece. I did not realize when I went to load mine for the first time that I had inadvertently purchased some less expensive, fewer than 3-ply tissues, and I had a mess on my hands. They never did dispense correctly. Ever since then, with the 3-ply all has been well. I have gotten so many compliments on this dispenser I cannot count. I give it 5 Stars and would recommend it to All.

Well-made
I've purchased 4 of these tissue boxes over the last 2 years for different areas of our home. They're sturdy, very attractive and well-made with a rich appearance. I wasn't sure how I would feel about having to remove tissues from their original packaging and transferring them to this box (the original tissue box will not fit in these wooden boxes) so purchased just one to start with, but have found it's no trouble transferring them. I did "disinfect" the wooden interiors as best I could using a clorox wipe before using. We use a lot of tissues at our house with my husband's allergies and these get heavy use. The latch locks and hinges seem solid on all and are holding up well.

Attractive
After reading other reviews, I knew about the problem with the opening being rough. As others suggested, I got out some sand paper and smoothed the edges. One glaring problem was a nail from one of the rivets was poking through. In an attempt to flatten it, the round leather strip (that the rivets hold) began to tear. Ended up having to glue the strip back down. Then I put a drop of wax glue on the tip of the nail to make it smooth.Take note: This item does not cover a square tissue box. It is a tissue dispenser only.Although the craftsmanship leaves a lot to be desired, the container is quite beautiful. The colors are even more rich than pictured. In spite of everything, I'm quite pleased with it.

Elegant and highly recommended.
Such an elegant tissue holder! A nice, small size. Exactly as described. I appreciate that the company listened to previous customers' suggestions to smooth the rough edge of the dispensing hole in the lid, because they complied! It's smooth and dispenses tissues perfectly without tearing the tissue. I also appreciated previous customers' explanations that tissues need to simply be taken out of the cardboard cube, in which the tissues are purchased, and placed in the tissue holder, as the design is too small to hold the cube. Not a problem at all, very nice to know to expect that, and it only took seconds to complete the task.

Cute, but NOT functional! Do not buy!
Was looking for a decorative tissue box for my living room. I did read in the details that you had to take the tissues out of the packaging/box in order to use this cover. That seemed like no big deal. But when I loaded the cover, I immediately realized this was NOT going to work. Even without the cardboard box, the tissues barely fit inside. But worst of all, the box is made of wood (which I thought was nice), but it turns out this is terrible. Where they cut a hole in the wood for the tissues to come out, they did not sand the wood or cover the opening with anything to make it smooth. As a result, the tissues simply shredded as I tried to pull them out. It was terrible and I immediately returned it. It's too bad bc it was cute.

Beautiful and well-crafted!
This tissue box "cover" is awesome. Please note, some reviewers have said their tissue box doesn't fit inside. It's not intended to! Per the product details in the description, you take the tissues out of the cardboard box and put them directly in this tissue box. Simple. And yes, the wood around the hole the tissues come out of is a little coarse, but I did a quick sanding around it (5 seconds!); the tissues don't catch on the wood at all with this quick fix. All-in-all an awesome addition to my living room!

Looks good in themed space.
I have this box in my "library", a room with built in bookshelves. It houses books, trinkets, board games, keepsakes, & photos. This tissue box fits the aesthetic of the room and keeps it feeling magical in there. (No boring or bad paper tissue box designs!)

Pretty outside; problem inside
The top of this box is made of wood with a circular hole cut in the middle. The inside edge of the hole is unfinished and very rough. The problem is that the tissue paper catches on this rough edge. Sometimes it tears, but more often it scrapes off little chunks of tissue that build up around the box each time you use it. This isn't fatal, but it is annoying, and I probably would have bought a different box if I had known about it.I fixed it like this (see photos):1. I used a piece of duct tape to cover half the hole,2. Then I used a box cutter to slice the tape and half, and then each half in half,3. I folded each of these four pieces outward, Forming a someone ugly, but smooth edge.4. Finally I repeated this on the other half of the hole. The result greatly increases the ease of pulling the tissue through the hole. If I wanted to take the time, I could probably trim the tape so you couldn't see it from the outside. This could all be solved by the manufacturer's gluing a plastic ring to the inside of the box… but, of course, that didn't happen.
