profoundly helpful and inspiring book
Like many others, I experienced psychic/intuitive events from early childhood on and had no idea what was happening, so I did not tell anyone and suppressed my own experiences with a great deal of fear and shame for much of my life. This book is excellent and profound and provides insights that I have never read anywhere else. I am finally accepting myself as a psychic and an intuitive (the terms are not the same) and my life is improving as a result. This book is liberating! I highly recommend this book, and really, I highly recommend many of Orloff's other books as well. If you are not sure where to start with her many books, I would suggest beginning with "The Empaths' Survival Guide" because it is very accessible IMHO. Whether you think that perhaps you are an empath, a highly sensitive person, a psychic, an intuitive, highly spiritual, a healer, and/or something else that is similar, her books will help a great deal.

I thought no one could ever understand the way it feels to be an Empath. Judith Orloff does.
I dug my toes into the warm sand past the tattered quilt's edge closer to the bonfire and watched the sun sink slowly into the Pacific. As she spoke I kept shaking my head, occasionally laughing aloud. I'd never met someone so much like me before! Sometimes I knew exactly what she was going to say. Her familiar story was cool spring rain on my parched heart. I listened with complete attention through the night. By the time the sun rose, I had accepted her as a new friend. And I felt stronger, somehow larger than before. That's how it felt to read Dr. Judith Orloff's Second Sight - like one of those wonderful all-night conversations that you'll never forget. Through her warmth and honesty she reminded me that there is a place for Empaths in this world. We must not let the fear of untrained gifts stop us from accepting our calling. Hiding from it doesn't help. Judith's story leads ultimately to acceptance of this.Presented in two parts, Second Sight begins with Initiations, detailing Judith's difficult lessons and growth toward acceptance that medicine and intuition can be successfully integrated into both work and life. In part two, Teachings, Dr. Orloff shares "practical techniques to develop intuition, dreams, and a connection with your own spiritual path.""What saved me were the angels who appeared along the way - mentors and teachers who had travelled this path before and shared their wisdom with me. This made all the difference."This book has been that for me. An angel along the way. A mentor encouraging acceptance of my gifts. A teacher sharing a path through the traps and pain. A friend holding out a light in the dark. A kindred spirit. Judith, Thank you for sharing your self, your story, your truth. It has been an honor and a real blessing to me.If you're an Empath, Intuitive, or otherwise sensitive, read this book.If you aren't, but want to understand, read this book.I'm reading The Empaths Survival Guide now.

Wonderful book for those with an ‘unwanted’ gift
I love that she shared how these gifts actually unfold and that you can either nurture them and grow in power and use or deny them and not be enriched by their essence. I needed books to describe what it is really like to encounter the supernatural and fold it into life without losing touch with the ground of reality. When my gifts opened to me it was utterly terrifying. I am so thankful she wrote these books. I bought them all and am reading them all for sound guidance. I don’t like having the gifts because I feel like a freak. She shows us how to incorporate them into our lives with love and care and gives truly useful advice in how to do that. I look forward to more from her. It’s scary when the world opens up as it can. Thankfully we have gifted doctors to give advice which is not rooted in circus and carnival madness. It’s a challenge to become educated without encountering those who are charlitans or fringe.

Reawakened at 60, thanks to "Second Sight"!
I just read "Second Sight" cover to cover over a period of 3 days, every waking moment I could put on hands on it. I have never been so immersed in a book. I feel like I have just been shaken from a dream that has made no sense (only it was truly my life) to a whole new awareness of possibilities! I felt like Judith was speaking directly to me, due to relating to many of her experiences, but also because of her conversational writing style, which I very much enjoyed. In "Second Sight", I learned that childhood events I had never understood before could, in fact, be related to intuitive/spiritual experiences. I feel that my life has just turned a corner, and begun a vital chapter in my quest for "why am I here?". To understand and appreciate that I am an intuitive empath, explains pretty much everything about me personally. In my careers as an both an RN and as a Psychotherapist, I now know that my abilities have truly been a part of my healing work and I am further inspired to develop my intuition professionally and personally. I am finally free to say "YES, I AM intuitive" without fear of ridicule, thanks to now having Dr. Orloff as a respected frame of reference for colleagues and clients. While I used to laugh it off whenever I would hear "are you psychic or something?" I now have the courage to respond affirmatively. Thank you, Dr. Orloff, for risking your own credibility so that others can honor and develop their intuitive abilities. I am excited to dig in to all of your books and I will be recommending and integrating them in my work, and with my family and friends. It is not overstated to recognize your work as life-saving, profoundly impacting both the depths, and the methods, of healing lives.I

Integrating Intuition with clinical practice.
I so enjoyed this book. It is well written and I found the content not only mirroring various aspects of my own spiritual journey, but also professional challenges of incorporating intuitive gifts into a clinical practice. Overall the book confirmed and affirmed my own experiences of intuition, outside of the New Agey paradigm that I have often found off-putting. Judith Orloff’s story puts the challenges of bringing our gifts into balance with science and medicine very much into the foreground, and offers guidance for those practitioners to integrate their sensitivities with their chosen professional disciplines.

Long and very rambling
I bought this on the basis of enjoying her book on Empathy, which had a few interesting ideas. But this book, by contrast, seemed incredibly long, rambling and disconnected. Desperately needed an editor.

Informative; a great book
What a great read for anyone seeking authentic information about this topic. Judith just tells her story, she doesn't over state any aspect and it all just feels very natural. No sensationalism, she shares her own doubts and failings as well as her positive experiences.

Totally honest and sincere autobiography of a psychic psychiatrist.
What a beautiful biography. A Pshychic grown up in a science orientated family fights to armonize herself with the society and world outside herself. It is the tale of an honest and generous person searching for her own self. Her search goes further than the "normal" standards as she looks for growing spiritually while developing her long time repressed pshychic senses.
