K&N20X25X1 HVAC Furnace Air Filter, Lasts a Lifetime, Washable, Merv 8, the Last HVAC Filter You Will Ever Buy, Breathe Safely at Home or in the Office, HVC-8-12025

Was very surprised to see k&n making home AC filters. I've used them in many automotive and powersport applications for over 20 years. K&N makes a high quality high performance air filter. I almost didn't purchase this because of a few negative reviews but with Amazon if it's not right you can return it.Was not surprised to see the filter was of great quality and came with a dry style washable media. A few people complained about fitment but the 20x25 I received fit pretty good. It covered the complete return vent and does not rattle around.K&N includes small screws that can be threaded into the ends of the filter to apply pressure against the framework of your ac return which if used right would take care of any rattles. I see so many bad reviews on items that I ultimately buy that are really not fair. It seems if you have to lift a finger or make an adjustment outside of dropping it straight in it's a bad product. My ac return frame has bendable tabs built in which can be moved out to hold the filter. Some returns have this and some don't. I did use them but truly did not have to im very picky and wanted the filter centered.I can say this is a true high flow filter that actually flowed as good as a cheap 30 day replacement but filters like one of the more expensive 3m 90 day filters. I have tried 2-3 reusable cleanable filters and most were so restrictive my airflow through the vents was reduced or it was a pain,in the @$$ to clean and maintain.This washable k&n home AC filter is the best I've used, fit was good(not perfect) , it filters very well(not too restrictive) and its washable dryflow media should last a lifetime if cleaned properly every 2-4 months depending on your house. Try it and you will see that it's a high quality , washable, reusable(for all you green new deal folks) home AC filter.

Super sturdy, as you would expect from a K&N product. Because it is rigid (no flex) and slightly wider than a disposable filter, you might find it difficult to pull the filter out of the slot in the furnace. I generally need something to use as a pry to get it above the slot opening so I can grab it. But most importantly, be aware that there is a significant tradeoff between filtering and airflow. I have no doubt the K&N does a much better job filtering than a disposable MERV 8 filter. However, you will LOSE SIGNIFICANT AIRFLOW with this filter. I don't have a way of measuring airflow volume, but judging by the time it takes to cool my house as well as by feeling the airflow from the vents, I suspect airflow is cut by at least 20%. This will likely cause your air handler to work harder which in turn, will cause it to run longer, increasing electricity costs.

I’ve been a fan of the automotive products for years, and I feel like I’ve got the same value here.For the same price as a 3-pack of disposable filters of the same size, I now have a reusable filter with equal filtration capability. The construction is great and the element surpasses any other “reusable” unit on the market (and I’ve tried them).What’s more, the sturdy frame actually locks into place better than the cardboard version. My intake vents have aluminum tabs that can bend into place to hold the filter, and they sit in the groove of the filter frame perfectly. In other words, it’s not dropping when the suction of the intake is off.The frame has an added benefit that I’ll explore later. As with any filter, a little air escapes around the outer edges of the frame and causes a little whistling. While this one is extremely quiet, I could, potentially, improve it with a little bit of foam rubber insulation tape on the frame. This would be impractical for a disposable filter, but the added cost may have some value to go “whisper silent” with a true seal.Unfortunately, I was only to replace one of my three intake filters with the 20” x 25” x 1” I purchased. I need a 14” x 14” x 1” for the bedroom and a 20” x 40” x 1” for the second HVAC unit (we have two in our home). I’ve reached out to K&N sales and requested assistance on the additional sizes (still waiting for a call back). However, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.UPDATE 3/27/2020 - Since installing the filter back on February 10th, it continues to operate quietly and as efficiently as it had on day one. My 3M ones, on the other hand, are getting a little more slack and allowing for more wind noise. All were installed the same night. I'm sure the PVC frame makes all the difference. It's time to clean the filter, so I'll be ordering the cleaning solution to do just that. Easy to clean and works so much better wish I would have bought sooner our house even stays colder and ac unit works less hard then it did before definitely recommend 🙂 one happy customer that's for sure! Husband even noticed a difference!!

This is much better than disposables. We'll built and sturdy. Clean each month and dry. Keep one of those spare disposables to use while.you are cleaning but that will last a long time because it will only be in your unit for a short time. Good fit also. Easy install.

I find it difficult to clean, or more specifically how to know it IS clean. You can't really see the dust/dirt, especially when you are running water over the metal.

The build quality is excellent and truly built to last. It was easy to clean with soap and water and only took a day to dry. The filter didn’t get as dirty in the same time period as a standard filter. I’m assuming because of the number of air filter pleats. More testing is required

Buy the K&N filter cleaning spray when you buy this and depending how often you change your disposable ones (in our case it was every 3 months) we should break even after 3 years of owning this. We keep a disposable one available to use while we are cleaning the K&N filter. Rated MERV 11 so if you have allergies then this may help improve the air quality a little for you.

Because it is high filtration it plugs up fast and needs to be cleaned often

Filtration is excellent and cleaning versus replacement will save money in the long run
