Good value solar lighting system but no brackets or clips included
Today I installed this (temporary) to my shed. What should have been a quick and easy job was made more difficult due to no included solar brackets or cable clips. If you want this for camping you'll not need the solar panel brackets or cable clips, so I can understand why they might not be included, but I wish they could have explained that if attaching to an outhouse you'll need to get your own brackets and clips then I could have ordered them at the same time, now I'm waiting on some cable clips coming from Amazon...https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004OWYQR8/ref=ya_st_dp_summarySearching on Amazon I found the cost of solar panel brackets is around £10 cheapest so you'll need to either factor this into the cost or think of another solution to fasten your panel. I can understand why these are not included due to the cost of them. The cables I measured as around 3mm thick and I've ordered 3.5mm clips as these are plentiful, cheap and will hopefully fit perfectly. The instructions state the battery will charge in 4-6 hours when in direct daylight and that a full charge will run both bulbs (1watt and 2watt) together for 5 hours.Personally I only want light when looking for stuff in my shed and when putting my bike away.I doubt I will every use my lights for longer than 1hour a week!As I don't think I'll drain much battery each day I didn't see the need to attach the solar panel to the roof with £10 brackets, instead I 'customised' 2 cheap brass hooks I had in my tool cupboard and I attach the solar panel to the side of my shed using these. If I find I ever need more light I'll buy the brackets then.No cable clips are included, which is a real shame. I understand that some people will buy this for use in tents and such, but clips are very cheap. I just ordered 100 3.5mm clips for less than £2 and can't full install properly until they arrive. I feel they could have included 50 or so clips. Until the 3.5mm clips arrive I've tacked a few 9mm clips as a temporary measure. Now it is all set up (temporary at least) I am pleased with the purchase, the light are not blinding but are bright enough to find stuff in the shed and fine for my needs. The quality of the solar panel and control unit seem OK to good (excellent for the price I paid) and the rechargeable battery is replaceable. The bulbs seen OK to replace them you need to buy more USB powered bulbs (the whole USB lead and bulb in one). The only reason why I would say the bulbs are good quality is because the hooks to hang the bulbs are made from silicon and look like they could snap easily.Very straight forward to set up, once you've run your cables and attached the solar panel. The instructions are ok but I have found some errors. The instructions state that this can..."...import power(charged by solar panel) and export power (to LED light) at the same time"... however mine can not. Whilst charging the battery my lights definitely do NOT work. This is fine for me as my shed had windows so I will only ever need the lights on when it is dark outside and hence the solar panel stops charging and my lights work when needed.I was able to run my lights during the day, but only after unplugging the solar panel input and hence stopping charging. This could be a bigger issue if you are camping and wanting to charge the solar unit and your phone at the same time.I'll upload some pictures now, it's not neat but I'm waiting on some cable clips.I'll add photos of the instructions to help people make a more informed choice and incase anyone or I lose the instructions and need a copy.<<Edit/Update>>My 3.5mm cable clips arrived, they are slightly large but still do the job fine. My cabling looks a lot neater now.I'm very happy with this in my shed. The solar panel gets an abundance of light to charge the battery despite being attached to the side of the shed.I feel a little tight rating this 4 stars, but without the clips and brackets just can't rate it 5. If possible I would have gave it 4.5/5 stars.
