i don't have any professional need for a tool like this, but i've still found it really handy to have around. i've used it a lot more than i honestly expected to, and it's been great to have. it's accurate, and very sturdy. the markings seem to be well painted, none of have rubbed off yet.

It's a great tool if you create handmade rings so you can achieve a fairly accurate size. It would also work for creating symmetrical rings/circles with wire, too.

I am rating this based on the ads description and pictures. First off, it's not the same as the ad. The ad shows that the handle is squared with 4 sides. In reality it has 8 sides and a rounded top. The ad shows a smooth flawless tool. What I received is a seriously scratched and scuffed tool. Yes, this is good for size gaging. All of the numbers and grooves are measured perfectly. The back, however, has a deep and wide-open groove that runs the entire length of the wand. I ordered this as a beginner tool for making wire rings. So, I'm not sure if that will hinder the shaping process or not. Even though I don't care about the shape of the handle I am taking one star off because the ads pictures do not match what I received. I'm taking a second star off for looking like a secondhand item. New products should look new.

This is a great tool for checking ring sizes, especially when you have a lot of rings and you don’t remember the sizes on them. It would also be good for making wire jewelry rings. It’s lightweight. The numbers are easy to see. It’s very inexpensive great value. I got this because a lot of my rings have bent out of shape from over the years and this worked wonders to bend them back into shape.

It's plastic and a little on the flimsy side.I don't have much confidence in its continued accuracy or durability.It worked for the one ring we needed to size so my husband could order another.And, if that's all you want to do, this may be the right price for you to do it.If you anticipate regularly using it, or making or selling jewelry, buy a nicer one.I'd be embarrassed to let a customer see this.

Many years ago, I worked at a jewelry store - theoretically, I was a jewelry salesman, but I think you could count my sales to non-relatives on one hand. I was primarily a warm body who could open and close and help them set up their DOS-based computer.But we had a real, metal mandrel for sizing rings, so this is a bit of nostalgia for me - we used to straighten out bent rings, and we'd even size up rings about a half-size by tapping with a mallet.I see some other reviewers have done some tapping, and I'm surprised that this hard plastic holds up to that, but as my headline says, I really just need a way to tell what size a ring is that isn't hoky.
