Tatcha
Love that you can use this with any product. It helps hydration seep deeper into skin. I use it all over but love especially to use on upper lip wrinkles. I then put my favorite lip wrinkle cream on top and it hydrates further. I see a big difference in the morning

Reviving & Refreshing Skin, Watery
I have mild rosacea and my skin is very sensitive but this didn’t irritate it.I didn’t notice a scent. The dispenser helps pour the essence out without causing a mess. The is well made and looks good. It’s watery and feels like it, so it’s runny. It absorbs easily when patting it in. It’s lightweight, doesn’t feel greasy or sticky and dries smooth. Afterward, my skin looked revived and refreshed, it had a healthy glow and took away some dullness, my skin felt soft and smooth. This essence feels naturally hydrating. I like it but it’s expensive so I’m not sure if I’d order it again.

Nice light essence for dewy skin
Essence is between toner and serum in East Asian skincare and Tatcha is a Japanese company that makes top notch products. This essence is perfect to put in a portable spray bottle to carry in your purse to hydrate your face when it's feeling dry or your makeup looks cakey.Depending on the season, I layer essence after toner and use it as a finally step after serum, in lieu of lotions or creams, if it's humid and my skin already has enough moisture. When my skin is dry, I pat essence to seal moisturizer before bed.Green tea isn't one of my favorite skin care ingredients for dryer months, I prefer fermented rice or snail mucin, but this is a nice essence for summer or if you tend to have oily skin.

Pricey, but very clean
I am a huge fan of Tatcha, so I was excited to try this serum. At first, I was a little confused by the label "serum" because it feels more like a toner, but wow, this is truly the good stuff! It feels like water, but I could tell immediately that there's much more to it because my skin felt soft, and I loved that there was no sticky residue. It's also very absorbent and hydrating, and it goes well with my other facial products that I use after this. The packaging is also so smart because the spout design prevents the essence from dripping out of the bottle when dispensing. Admittedly, the price is quite high, but considering how supple and bright my skin feels, if you have the money to splurge, I would definitely recommend it.

Pricey for a first treatment essence
I added Eastern/KBeauty first treatment essences to my skincare routine a few years ago. These products are not toners nor are they serums. They are lighter and yes, more watery. Before getting TATCHA essence, I was using a SKII dupe. When it came to hydration and purpose, I found this product similar to the current essence I am using (MISSHA First Treatment) - yet it is 4 times the price.I started using Eastern skincare products several years ago 1) for different, non traditional ingredients and 2) PRICE! TATCHA products are much higher than most of the Eastern skincare lines I use. Yet, I am not sure why.

H2O HYPE?
Sad to say I agree with the review that questioned whether this is just mostly water. I'm aware of the benefits of rice, algae and green tea having lived in Japan (I'm aware that this is a popular skincare brand). I've also worked for some top cosmetics brands including Estee Lauder. But I don't think of those as being specialty, luxury ingredients enough to warrant the price tag. Sorry, Tatcha. I would LOVE to try some of their other products, though. This is coming from someone who orders imported stuff from Japan like shampoo online often and is not afraid to pay the price tag for a quality product. I also buy micellar wipes for my daughter.I will say that naturally it's moisturizing but I think the delivery is where they went wrong. The bottle is sleek and pretty but If they had delivered this in a spray bottle (or even a wipe!) you'd notice the refreshing, subtle green tea fragrance more and it would feel more pampering but instead when you fill your palm with what feels like water, the experience is less than luxurious-feeling. For the price, I think people expect to at least feel the product on their skin (and maybe even a little more fragrance although I actually prefer unscented). I follow this up with my regular moisturizer to seal in the "essence".I have used lots of serums and usually they contain just a tad bit of oil or something you can feel. So I think this was probably a cultural difference because in Japan pouring water from a vessel and washing your hands before entering a temple is almost a ritual and a symbol of purity. A religious experience. All this is lost on Westerners. This doesn't feel special to me.The bottle looks nice. I probably wouldn't gift this to any of my girlfriends unless they are Japanese. I'd look for a product with a bit more....substance.

A Clear, Fragrance-Free, Lightweight Serum That Produces Noticeable Results
Tatcha The Essence is an oil free, plumping skin softener made with a proprietary concentrate of Japanese superfoods with essential amino acids including Akita Rice, Uji Green Tea, and Okinawa Algae. The presentation for the product in both the glass bottle holding the 5fl oz and manufacturer box is very sleek and modern looking. The manufacturer instructs to pour a palmful of The Essence into your hand and press gently into the skin on your face and neck. I used The Essence after washing my face with my favorite facial cleanser and applying toner. When applying the product to my face, I found that the clear serum is very lightweight and has no fragrance. It didn't produce any feeling of tingling or zinging and felt like dabbing water to my face. A little product does go a long way. Initially, it reminded me of micellar water. After the second day of use, I found a noticeable improvement to my skin as it felt softer to the touch, looked brighter, revitalized, and refreshed. The manufacturer noted that the suggested ritual is to use after Tatcha's Camellia Cleansing Oil and Rice Polish: Classic while finishing with The Silk Cream. When it comes to price, it is noticeably on the higher side, however, I feel that it is worth the investment if your budget allows. It is Made in Japan. Overall, I am really impressed with the results that I received after using this product and plan to add this serum to my daily beauty routine.
