JustIngredients Essentials Bilberries 500 g

I grew up in a place where bilberry picking was the norm, they grew wild on the hills. Then I moved, and I have searched everywhere for bilberries, used to be able to get them in jars. So I found these advertised, and decided to try them. After sifting through them and removing any small stones, bits of grit e.t.c. which is found commonly in any 'wild' seeds/berries. I put 250gram into a bowl, added two dessert spoons of white sugar, and poured boiling water over them, so that it was level with the top of the berries, covered the bowl with cling-film and let them steep for 24 hours, giving them an occasional shake. The following day, I found the berries absorbed virtually all the water, leaving about a couple of tbs full in the bottom of the bowl, a quick stir dispersed that. I didn't pour any away . I then made my pie ---- no problems at all. I sprinkled 5 tbs sugar over them before putting the pastry lid on, I don't like very sweet things, and the pie was exactly right for my taste, if you like sweeter desserts, then I suggest sprinkling up to 8 tbs of sugar. I reserved a couple of tablespoons of the berries in order to make a bilberry and sponge pudding, added one dessertspoon of sugar to those berries... was lovely with some custard.

Absolutely dreadful. A complete waste of money. These are nothing like the bilberries I have ever had before. Gave them one star should have been -5*

Tried several ways to make them edible with no success whatsoever.

I BOUGHT THIS BILBBERY FOR ITS MEDICINAL BENEFITS BUT DID NOT TASTE GREAT PROBABLY TOO DRIED OR TOO OLD

My favourite pie as a child was always bilberry, loved it with cream and I am looking forward to rehydrating these berries and making a delicious pie with crispy rich pastry and thick cream, yummy

Very happy with the bilberries and use daily.
